Reality Checks to aid in Lucid Dreaming

Reality checks are a way to check that you are in a Lucid Dream . These are things that you can do that will physically show you that you are in a Dream and, as such, will make you Lucid. Here is a list of the most common and best working RC's

The list

  1. Pinching your nose and trying to breathe through it. This is a very popular RC that many people use, because you will still be able to breathe through your nose if it is blocked in a Dream.
  2. Trying to poke the finger of one hand into the palm of the other. If your finger goes through your palm, this will mean you are dreaming, as this will not happen in the real world.
  3. Counting your fingers. This may seem simple, but if yo notice anything strange about your hands, or if you have more (or less) fingers than normal, this can make you lucid, although it has less of a chance of working as the ones above.
  4. Turning a light switch on and off. This is not a great one and I do not recommend it but usually, light switches will not work in a Dream. This means that it has a small chance of making you lucid.
  5. Looking at an object, looking away, and looking at it again. Is it still there? If not, this can trigger lucidity.
  6. Jumping. When you jump, do you land normally or do you float, fly etc.
  7. Reading. Can you make sense of the words? If no, you are dreaming. If yes, read them, look away, and look at them again. Are they the same, or different? Does the sentence make sense? If not, then you are probably dreaming.
  8. Math. Can you add two numbers together? If not, then you are most likely dreaming.
  9. Time. Can you tell the time on your watch, a clock on the wall etc.
  10. Tattoos. If you have Tattoos, check if you still have them. If they are gone or different from your normal Tattoos, you are dreaming.

I have found these 10 Reality Checks to be effective at checking whether I am in the dream world or not. If you want more you can google "Reality Checks For Lucid Dreaming" and you should get some results for some more. You should also perform more than one reality check and do each at least twice, incase they fail. For me, I do the nose pinching, finger through the palm and counting my fingers, and I do each twice. I also remind myself that whenever I check the time I should perform them.
