Google is just an online advertising company

I think it's potentially harmful to conflate a company's revenue source with the capital they've accumulated. Google, like many others, are a intelligence company: they have eyes everywhere, if you've used Google Earth or Maps recently, you've seen that they've used all their sources to create the most accurate picture of the planet. With Android and GPS datya, they know nearly every single WiFi router on the planet and know the password to most. With Google Home and Earth, they'll know your home inside and out. The most marketable option right now is to use their knowledge to take over the roads with fleets of self-driving vehicles.

Amazon in contrast is posed to vertically take-over the entirety of retail and delivery.

I've looked into it, while they have some good ideas, they have a disturbing tendency to fall short from their stated goal of eliminating bias. Most times it feels like a bunch of STEMlords looked at philosophy and social sciences from an outsider perspective, and instead of finding their place within a larger body of work, they had NIH-syndrome and decided to reinvent the wheel without all the "cruft" of a rich history. As with most cases where people ignore history, they have a tendency to repeat mistakes and reinvent the wheel badly. This gets dangerous when they fail to identify some simplifying ideological assumption.

You'll find a great deal of criticism of the movement on /r/SneerClub on the old site.

We shouldn't try to convert him, we should focus our efforts on this current generation and leave Stallman alone to do what he does best.

I don't think he'd be opposed to a communist revolution should it come as long as people are liberated from proprietary software.

I suspect he's just taking an incremental approach in the pursuit of realizable change we can see. He has enough of a challenge on his hands when it comes to the Free software revolution.
