Really nice that you helped him and that he got away. It's good to be teaching / encouraging / helping young people to become (better) thieves.

Great work and stay safe!

Clothing will often have an RFID tag sewn into a seam. If you find a label like this:

https://i.reddituploads.com/864e31a4321943ac8a0ab514649f348a?fit=max&h=1536&w=1536&s=94c65688496a16c2445d97b70909bacb

then that is what set off the alarm.

These tags have to be de-activated by the cashier when you are paying :(

Or cut out / cut through by you when you are stealing :)

I would also like to know if lp can stop me by observing my bulging pockets?

“Is that stolen merchandise in your pants or are you just happy to see me?”

:D

Definitely teach her. If she is interested in stealing then she will do it anyway, so better to show her the tricks and explain the risks.

My nephew fills shelves for a certain supermarket chain to help pay his way through college. They have no LP and the only cameras are watching the cash registers. The shelf-fillers are supposed to watch out for theft but they are too poorly paid to care. He told me they never stop someone they see lifting, they're more likely to help them steal stuff, especially if it's another student .....

No, that's BS. Those mega-companies have shrinkage budgeted in.

My nephew works parttime for a certain large supermarket chain to help pay his way through college. They have never gotten rid of anyone because of people shoplifting. My nephew and most of his colleagues will never challenge someone they see lifting. A lot of them steal stuff themselves or will help a friend with concealing etc.......
