Socialism isn't "transitional," it's simply a state (as in a condition or circumstance, not a nation state) where workers own the means of production (and writ greater, is often meant to mean any society in which all of its resources and productive outputs are used for the greater collective good, this being the assumed logical outcome of non-privatized resources).

I used avidemux now (mostly for making gifs from videos and cutting the resolution and bitrate on things I want to stream). I'm pretty sure avidemux works as a frontend for ffmpeg as well as incorporating other features, but I hope if anyone is more familiar with it than I that they will correct me if I'm wrong.

While I wouldn't want to have subs with extreme rules differences like "It's okay to be a racist piece of shit here," the idea of merging threads between subs is iffy because different subs may have different communicative norms or ideological perspectives that could make partitioning discussions a reasonable choice.

I'd rather not force carnists into vegan threads or egoists into conversations about actual anarchism, for example. It's bad enough when people like that just go out of their way to tell other people that they're being wrong unsolicited.

If someone involved in two different subs talking about the same thing thinks it would be fruitful to crosslink them, they can probably do that themselves. At most I could see how an automatic reddit-like "Other Discussions" tab could help (even that I'm opposed to unless some economy of scale makes it seem more useful than conscious cross-linking), but I'm definitely against the idea of auto-merging.

Wow it's almost like concepts such as "truth" and "knowledge" aren't universal but are simply constructed through power. If only there were some branch of thought that acknowledged this and people had actually taken it seriously instead of spending decades disparaging it as foolish and baseless.

It's a reference to the movie "PCU," where one of the characters posits the Caine-Hackman Theory, whereby "no matter what time it is, 24 hours a day, you can find a Michael Caine or Gene Hackman movie playing on TV."

He utters the above line, minus the switched names, upon seeing A Bridge Too Far, which stars both of them.
