I’d say start small. Dont bring a bag to fill up don’t try to do a haul. Get familiar with a store and their layout. I’ve lifted from Walmart a million times and the only time I’ve ever been caught is a few weeks ago at a new store I tried for the first time because mine was closed.

I’ve only had an issue one when I was with a group of friends who were fucking around acting like we were at Walmart or something. Two people followed us (basically chased us) around the store super close until we stopped by the food and they just walked away. Other than that myself and others I know have hit target for very small things without problems. I highly suggest Walmart though I’ve heard too many stories about Target

In all truth is yes it does harm employees in a way. It’s nothing huge most of the time and ive never heard of theft being the sole reason a store goes out of business or people get fired. But for example at my old job we were required to write up sales associate when people stole from the store which is shitty and it gave them anxiety. Some of them ended up on probation for a few months where they were allowed to call out or they’d be up for termination.

I think we like to tell ourselves it doesn’t hurt them at all which is a lie and then people who hate lifters try to hype it up and make it sound like more than it is. The reality of it is somewhere in the middle

Not true at least at the location I used to work at. I’ve seen people tackled for stealing underwear. They do keep tabs of how much each lift/attempted lift was for their own personal. I assume if you got away and came back and they were to press charges they would add all the information together to get it to a felony

Yes and no. Store close/cut hours/fire employees when they don’t make enough money in general. Shoplifting is rarely the sole reason it’s usually a combination of things like lifting + too many returns and not enough sales.

I wouldn’t say you should feel bad per se but I also wouldn’t hit small location stores that you know aren’t very busy because chances are it would impact them more negatively
