People like me have been skeptical of keybase from the start. We already have the keyservers
Reply to The FBI successfully broke into a gunman’s iPhone, but it’s still very angry at Apple by ziq
That the US goberment is this angry at Apple is promising, assuming it's not theatrics like celebratedrecluse says
There is no reason why companies like Apple cannot design their consumer products and apps to allow for court-authorized access by law enforcement
That would defeat the entire purpose for encrypting them in the first place

Reply to Signal, Tor, and the USA by celebratedrecluse
This is why you should use Briar instead of Signal. In addition to Tor it can also communicate over Bluetooth and Wifi Direct, no Internets necessary. I don't really consider Tor to be the largest concern next to Signal's servers being in the US. It's also much easier to subpoena Google for its web tracking data to track Tor Browser users than breaking Tor itself.
Another thing to keep in mind is that every router, phone, laptop and desktop is compromised by things like Intel ME. RISC-V and libre software defined radio makes the situation better, but low-tech solutions are easier for most people to understand. Meeting face-to-face in random physical locations with no phones costs way more for the spooks to try and eavesdrop on, compared to tricking people into thinking WhatsApp is secure.
There are also systems that make use of data diodes which are immune to data exfiltration over the network.

The case is close to the statute of limitation, and witnesses' memories are fuzzy. So we'll never really know what actually happened. I doubt it's a smear

Zcash is also a possibility. But more importantly how dare OP besmirch our robotic comrades like this, equating them to cops is blatant mechanophobia
Reply to Non-vegans: Why? by curious
I'm more concerned with what is best for the atmosphere, and veganism is not necessarily the best approach. Case in point: keeping the moose population down is important to keeping the spruce and pine population up. I see nothing wrong with eating game, and I am suspicious of anyone who thinks killing is strictly wrong.
The meat industry is horrible tho, and I haven't bought meat at the store in ages. The dairy industry is probably not much better, but I haven't taken that step yet.
Eh, the general feel among Swedish datalovers is that Bahnhof's stances are mostly PR to attract customers. While they're not bad actions, Karlung has repeatedly shown himself unwilling to take more drastic measures. With net neutrality gone, Swedish ISPs are free to take collective action against the copyright industry. But they won't
The ANS thing is so fucking infuriating.

Hillary winning is not the same thing as voting for Hillary.

Apple products are just shiny prisons. You're doing yourself a disfavor by being used by them.
The guy gets kinda douchey at the end, but pointing out the hypocrisy is good.

Not really, no. I'm curious what Brown's goals were besides abolition and building a black liberation army

Excellent praxis. The only way I can think of improving it is if they got a hold of his debit card and purchased shit and made donations to worthy causes with it

These "dl" programs (youtube-dl, svtplay-dl, megadl etc) will likely move toward emulating a full browser if the need comes. The unfortunate result of companies fucking over the Web

Does it occur to these people that maybe a post-scarcity society will never arrive? It's as if they think there's some limit to human desire.
I find it strange that people who have supposedly read Marx still do commodity fetishism, with "progress" toward some mythical future where we are liberated from work, instead of just being satisfied with what we have.
