Cool - and I agree with both. Super interested to hear what you think when you read more

There's also Conflict, Doubt, Mediation: the Anthropology of Modern Time by Laura Bear, but I can't find it online for free so haven't read it

YES I AM ON A SIMILAR TIME-INQUIRY. I really am enjoying Shippen's Decolonizing Time (2014) and Adjaye's Time in the Black Experience. Please let me know if you find other literature

Actually, I take even more of an issue with Chomsky's linguistics than his politics. His whole thing with generative grammar is blatantly colonial and structured in such a way that renders linguists (university elites) authorities and gate-keepers over 'correct' language use, wrestling linguistic control from [so called 'native'] speakers

Reply to Meet the Stripper Consultant Who Gave ‘Hustlers’ Authenticity, Dignity and Sexual Freedom by An_Old_Big_Tree
I like the part about work being done to portray sexwork better, but also I think the choice of the title as " “comfort consultant” is a bad decision, due to the euphemistic use of "comfort" in "comfort women" (makes it jarring to be placed before "consultant" which to me feels like a mostly late-capitalist type of profession)

For me it was growing up in South Africa and witnessing the general messiness of state discourse trying to scoop up and hastily "correct" undesirable narratives, moving from apartheid, to "rainbow nation" non racialism, to trying to co-opt outside resistances around land, all the while doing everything possible to participate in global capitalism.
