I did say, "It bothers me because I know I have talked with people before who do consider it to be ableist"

I could have maybe made that a little bit more clear, but I do know people who consider these words to be harmful. I wouldn't necessarily call them friends, but a few different former comrades of mine have found this word to be personally harmful.

I'm also literally asking here so that I can understand. I'm not enforcing behavioral norms, nor am I full on upset with my partner, just have mentioned to her that I understand those words to be ableist, but do not entirely understand why, which again, is why I'm here asking about it right now. Just because I don't understand the history, doesn't mean I can't tell her about the people I know who take personal offense to those words, and that I personally understand it to be ableist. I'm not starting a fight with my partner over this or otherwise manipulating/gaslighting her. Just relaying the information I have currently, with the understanding that more info is probably good in this situation

It does personally bother me though. That's like saying because I'm white and straight hearing racial or homophobic slurs doesn't personally bother me either, but it does, because hearing people use those harmful words, especially towards others, hurts. It reminds me of all the pain and oppression in the world and how deeply ingrained it all is and it just tugs at my soul a little bit whenever I hear someone use ableist language as well

It's called empathy sweaty /s

I do understand it's kind of odd to enforce behavioral norms that I don't understand, but that is literally what I am trying to do right now, understand. I already know that it hurts some people, so now I am trying to understand so that I can speak to it better

Yeah educating is weird verbiage, more like, bring it to their attention and see what they do with it. I agree that it's a little arcane and nitpicky outside of anarchist spaces, for the most part, certainly not something I'm planning to take up frequently, more just if I'm bored at work/other place I am somehow obligated to be at.

I really do appreciate you humoring my weird, but based request though hehe

It bothers me because I know I have talked with people before who do consider it to be ableist, and I would rather just cut that potentially hurtful language out of my life, than unknowingly harming others. My feeling is, better safe than sorry, ya know? It also hurts a little bit bc my partner doesn't entirely trust me on that, but I understand why she doesn't too. Not really looking for the party line, although that's a valid concern, more just looking for more resources to educate myself

"i get raped on rides" dude please don't use the word, "rape," so casually, it's upsetting, harmful, and triggering to all those who have actually lived that experience

It's okay friend, we all make mistakes, in fact I get fuckin dunked on in anarchist forums constantly. We're all just learning together so that we can make the revolution the best it can be, and I think that's beautiful

I pop in every once in a while. Normally don't post or lift a ton because I still live with my parents, so I don't need to lift much, but I've been picking it back up recently. Stole quite a bit today, may make a post soon

Bikes generally belong to the working class, airpods generally belong to the upper middle class and upwards. Bikes are basically a necessity, whereas airpods are not. We have no way of knowing whether or not OP has good intentions or not, but judging from the content, and the nature of this forum, I would say it's safe to assume that op's intentions are mostly good. Furthermore, if op's intentions aren't good, they probably wouldn't admit to it anyways. Better not to risk stigmatizing comrades, in this particular instance, but I know your heart was in the right place and I commend you for that ❤

I think ripped shoes are fucking rad! I own a pair and I rock em pretty regularly. Fuck what everyone else thinks, you just do your own thing yo. That's the key to fashion imo, just rocking whatever you got

6 months is usually the standard suggestion around here. Just find a different W@lm@rt for a while if you can

In the future, bear in mind that establishing a pattern while lifting is very likely to get you caught. Obviously if you go to the same store at the same time over and over again, eventually they will figure it out, and that just makes it that much easier for them to get the cops involved as well. Be smart out there friend!

Oh my gosh, this is all amazing information, thank you so much! However, why do you think I should build a separate account? I'm not exactly a big lifter, and I will try to avoid revealing personal information as I explore starting some sort of anarchist organization. Do people really not have bigger fish to fry ya think?

I also live in a fairly affluent, yet rural area with very little theft as far as I'm aware, so those all may be factors in them not having crystal towers. That being said, you can always just walk in and then turn right back around if the alarms go off. There's no way they could really get ya for that I'm pretty sure

This is another good point. I think that you're right, bit I also think that actually buying things from large companies who have exploited thousands of workers is pretty unethical as well. Weighing the two against each other, I'm definitely leaning towards continuing to lift for my parents but idk still. Gotta meditate on it some
