Oat milk is great, I've been obsessed with it lately. It's really smooth and has a natural sweetness that makes it a nearly dead-on replacement for cow milk in cooking. It's also really easy to make yourself, you should definitely try it!

Imagine shooting a child in the head 52 times and being able to live with yourself. Imagine your child being permanently crippled by your government, and your government handwaving its investigation of itself. Almost incomprehensibly terrible.

I wish we could get this in more languages indigenous to South America... they are the most vulnerable groups, because when taken into custody by ICE they often cannot locate anyone who can speak their language in order to fight for their rights.

I worry that knowledge about the process of recycling is really underdeveloped in the left. Other commentors are incorrect. Recycling can be efficient. The issue is that, under late capitalism, there has been little incentive to better recycling habits because we were just sending off our recycling to developing countries. These countries no longer want to accept recyclables because Westerners can't get our shit together enough to learn what can and can't be recycled, with the result that most of it is severely contaminated. This contamination is dangerous for the people processing it in these developing countries, as well as making it impossible for to sell to the final party. Which means that the risk is too high for them to continue accepting it. As with all things, capitalism gets in the way of progress.

Reply to Man Who Strangled and Masturbated on an Unconscious Woman Got a Free Pass Under Alaska's Sexual Assault Law by n_n
Jesus christ. And men still laugh at us for carrying knives and pepper spray. I still don't understand how this didn't fit their previous definition of sexual assault - he jizzed on her face, for fuck's sake! Does that not count as forced contact with genitalia? Their interpretation of the law was extremely, excessively narrow.

Admire the spirit, but this is poorly thought out so far. You plan to shoplift food for multiple people, and that's your only short-term plan for feeding them? Not sustainable, especially considering you might be caught. You say you're going to buy land - who will pay taxes on it? The feds will sure expect someone to do it. Especially since you'll be close enough to a town to somehow steal from them without notice. What if the land you buy isn't arable? And if it is, how will you get seeds for food? Most fruits and vegetables sold nowadays are sterile, and even starter seed sold at markets typically produce sterile fruit. But assuming you have all that figured out, what will happen to your commune if there is a drought? If pestilence hits your crops or your chickens? If someone is seriously injured?
This will only succeed if you plan for every eventuality and gather multiple people who have knowledge that you do not posess. Select for specialization. Read history. Read about why most communes fail. It's nice to daydream about, but if you're sure you want to do this, you should put serious thought into it before you potentially hurt people.

Reply to What are your thoughts on genetic engineering? by Majrelende
Humans have been genetically modifying organisms since the dawn of our species. Every single crop we maintain exists because it was painstakingly bred into existence by generations of indigenous farmers. Modern technology just makes this more efficient. Genetically modified crops have saved millions upon millions of people from starvation. The only bad aspects of "GMOs" arise when corporations involve themselves in genetic modification with the goal of profit maximization. Corporations like Monsanto, that force farmers to be dependent on buying seed that grows into sterile fruit year after year, crippling their autonomy and forcing them to keep coming back for more. Like all technology, it is neither good nor evil - it is simply a tool that can be used or abused.
