dont skip over considering if proselytizing in any form is not worth your energy! desiring and seeking freedom does not necessarily entail spreading the good word

yeah you're definitely not wrong in asserting "trying to convince people of something in a language they don't understand is not going to work." but yeah, more questions arise from there. should i be trying to convince people to do anarchy? if so, how? with words? action? prefiguration? if not, where is my energy better spent?

you're in for a treat. check him out on the anarchist library. there's some good old discussion about his work here on raddle that i've stumbled across before... no time to search right now but shouldn't be hard to find with the blessed new search feature

damned if i haven't thought the same

i want to believe it's possible to be myself somewhere where others knowledge of me cannot be weaponized without quick retaliation from me and my friends (in this scenario; haha i dont have friends like that yet; nice). seems like divulging info could be separated from power balances in this place

If a person is incapable of being clear, then, they must not really know what it is that they are on about.

i've always disliked this statement. i value clarity and shared understanding too, but sometimes our environments shape the way we think, the way we understand certain words and concepts, etc. within any one language, there are multiple ways of concept building. e.g. people can understand a concept using academic language and then be confronted with the need to translate it into other words. just because they cannot do so quickly does not mean they are a fraud or whatever. (not to say that academic posturing doesn't exist, because it does obviously.) just... yeah. i guess it bugs me more as someone with social anxiety that uses more obscure words/concepts internally to understand things. i can't just rephrase things on the fly

bit of a tangent, but that's bugged me for a while

i pretty much agree with your take, OP. whether proselytizing should be a priority is another argument, though! renzo novatore comes to mind as someone who might find your post silly

western white people don't have the same sort of relationship to animals indigenous people do, even ones who hunt. i don't like the trend of people using indigenous people as an argument against animal lib because it reifies real, lived relationships into pawns for idpol

prety mucch that. ur on track imo

support (lol) on all 4 points. the "ban [user]" format can go for sure. i think mofongo hit it on the nose that

the "ban x" model of the current system obfuscate that the decision is up to the admin/mod and not a democratically type of post.

it's ultimately up to the people who put the time and energy into upholding the ToS.

i'm not very eloquent or well-red, so the best i can put my thoughts on this is: making ToS breach posts a "proposal" to be responded to with binary support/oppose seems to me to encourage a kind of witch hunt mentality... i'm not sure how to say why/how.

i think your (T_W's) idea of framing it as a notification/heads up to ToS upholders (mods, admins, mockers) is more honest and maybe more encouraging of conversation regarding level of harm done, possibility of restorative action on the part of the ToS transgressor, appropriate responses, etc if needed

nice, the hide feature is very useful. i also hope u find the role fulfilling, mofongo.

side idea that i may want to make a separate post for: is there a /wiki we can reference when emma's bitcoin is linked that quickly breaks down purchasing and sending bitcoin?

i've always thought it was heteronormative and rapey as well, but i never looked into its etymology. just heard it used a lot as someone who has spent too much time in video game oriented social settings.

the context and purpose was almost always shaming someone for being not being masculine enough, performing a similar function to more obvious queerphobic slurs. seems reasonable that the (edit: cishet) users of the term have, over time, loaded it more or less with these queerphobic elements we both perceived.

but maybe it's just us? lol. idk, maybe i was reading too much into it. still never gonna use it.

edit: not to mention "rape" being used just as commonly in those video game circles to mean "defeat," often in the same sentence as butthurt

i'm so socially isolated that i trade security and privacy for communication a lot of times. and video games help me stay engaged with the world and social to some extent, so i gotta run windows for those and have newer hardware aka newer surveillance tech

full libre hardware/software for one device, namely a laptop or tablet, would be the dream, but i couldn't cut everything else out without much more besides going my way in this life. like, i hope one day to have land with a found family where we self-sustain and grow our new worlds. would probably stop playing online games altogether at that point, and could do /u/celebratedrecluse 's flip-phone method

i'm working on finding other ways besides video games of having fun and enchanting the world, but for now it's a stable aid that i wouldn't do well without
