The Atlantic soft called his return in 2018 in a short writeup about his creepy-ass video from that year. Guess they were right.

As for the total lack of any real consequences, what else can we say? Until there's no financial incentive to work with assholes like this, studios with an eye on the bottom line will keep hiring them. Execs know that certain names carry a gaurenteed dollar amount when they appear in a movie, and they aren't ready to pass up those millions because of a few pesky survivors speaking out against scum fucks like this.

Thanks for this post. I agree with so many of your sentiments.

I've hated going to restaurants for a long time, and don't get the appeal. I acknowledge the reasons people may want/need to eat at restaurants, and similar to you, I'm not on a pulpit trying to get people to stop using them, but I personally hate the experience.

I think, for me, it comes from a dislike of the industry after having to work in food service for so many bullshit jobs. Like I know what its like in the kitchen and for the waitstaff, like a veil has been lifted, and now if I find myself a customer at a restaurant I can't help but think about what it takes behind the scenes, the shitty bosses, the exploitative, stressed rush of it all, and the compulsory fake friendly attitude that front of house staff are made to carry. I don't know if others who enjoy the experience don't see or know what goes into the process (like so many other commodified things we're made not to consider the origins/process of) or if they just don't care. That couple with the weird servant dynamic you address makes for an unenjoyable experience for me.

And on top of all that, I can seldom afford the food, and I can almost never afford to tip well, so I avoid it almost entirely.

I haven't read this article, though I may when I have time and edit this post accordingly, but I felt compelled to jump in here and say, Max Wilbert is a big ol TERF who still roles with Deep Green Resistance. Talks a lot of mess about "biological reality", but when you get to the core of it, much of his shit is rooted in the belief that trans folks are predators trying to invade women's spaces, or are seeking male privilege as a way to escape patriarchy. Shit's trash, don't invest too much stock in his opinions.

I don't really have a stake in this beyond my general ethos of fuck creeps and fuck abusers (esp abusive dudes in positions of power) but this writeup seems like a lackluster defense of Stallman by someone who, by their own admission, has literally done publicity work for the dude for years.

The author opens with this whopper: "People in the tech community know me as a high-tech publicist..." which immediately put me on alert, cause, ya know, who can you trust to deliver unbiased and sober analysis of a situation more than a PR professional? And they describe themselves as a "Silicon Valley connector" in their lil bio blurb? Ew, and no thanks. Like /u/celebratedrecluse said, immediate suspicion of likely wealthy insiders, and to echo /u/bloodrose, not everyone's experience with shitty abusive shitbots is shitty and abusive. Doesn't mean they haven't been shitty and abusive...

3/10, would not take authors stance in a debate

Heaven for-fucking-bid these fragile, grownass white manbabies ever face anything that approaches real oppression. They would literally fukin break. They melt down at the slightest bit of their entitlement being challenged.

I hope the oppression they cry about never actually happens, less so out of care for them, but more for everyone else's, cause, ya know, historically, when a fragile white dude breaks, he goes on a shooting spree. Fuck all this.

Puts me in a difficult place of saying either "Thanks Bin Laden!" or "Thanks CIA!" Tho I guess I could cover both with just CIA shoutout... Happy to have the cartoons regardless.
