There's a shitty part of my brain that has felt like this, the inner manchild, the rest of my brain is slowly killing it away. Like when someone criticizes your speech or writing, you do feel attacked, its like this personal pain when you realize, oh shit, I was being sexist, or racist or ableist, it hurts because you did not know yourself and have this new disappointment in yourself.
But fuck you, get over it! Shame is such a powerful and destructive motivator that weak people will turn thost bad vibes back on their accuser instead of listening to what they have to say, and growing as a person. Booo!
And that's what I associate that feeling with, growing as a person, which is never not painful. People who identify as men, if you wanna be tough guys, show us you don't dwell on your male fragility like I see way too often. Be wrong, listen and grow.

Totally:
I'd add that civilization guarantees crime by denying people basic survival needs like food and water. Civilization destroys mental health by hollowing out culture, a 40+ hour work week, consumption as identity, alienation and the education system. Anything not profitable is considered pointless. Civilization is responsible for the serial killer, the human bomb, school shootings and atomic weapons.

Wow I'm sorry. That's way worse than by me, another reminder I come from privilege. The worst we get is tear gas and flash bangs. Though people with cameras have been getting shot by rubber bullets a lot.The police legitimately think they can control the narritive through violence. We make our signs on shields, like plywood and stuff. People with shields go up front and protect the medics. You all be safe :( idk how I can help, we have a bail fund online here for those arrested, people donate to it, do you all have anything like that?

Including methane though? The permafrost is releasing it, the ocean is (RIP in peace ocean), and so are open oil wells and stuff. Yeah it is the extreme but there are some scenarios where shit gets non-linear, nature is like that.

One of the handguns I own came with a locking guard for the trigger. It allowed you to have the firearm loaded with a magazine in it but there was a cover over the trigger that only came off with the key. You could keep the key on you while you sleep and on your keychain while awake and it allows easy and quick access to a loaded firearm.
Thanks, I think info like this is the good stuff, new to me at least.
Now, if the attacker is in your room already when you wake up, that's when the solution gets muddled. I personally sleep with a knife on me.
I'm of the opinion that club beats knife, assuming equal skill and everything? I don't claim any expertise though, just have one of those big police flashlights, its basically a black steel tube full of D-cell batteries. Blind someone and start swingin'. But yeah if you really know what you are doing with a knife it's incredibly awful what you can do to someone if you get close enough.

True, but biometrics in computer security aren't regarded so great. You can revoke a password, but if your biometrics leak, you can't exactly get new fingerprints. And biometrics actually can change, just cause organic systems are like that. Thanks for the info

Yeah there are .357 big bore air guns used to hunt deer, such as the Benjamin Bulldog. Lol @ gun names. They are very reliable and popular with the off grid prepper because they partially solve the problem of running out of ammo in the long term. Unfortunately all air guns are way too expensive.

Also, these are basically firearms, THEY ARE NOT LESS LETHAL!

Qubes and Libreboot grey hat at least. I mean they both freed us from the corporate tyranny of X86.
And I guess I define hacker as anyone who understands a complex system better than its designer even.

Maybe for you, in a low crime upper class city neighborhood who has never experienced an armed robbery (at home or in the streets or the even in woods), or verbal and physical assault, it might seem like a perceived safety.
What is perceived for you is real for me Mr. Harvard Statistics.
Ehhh, really my friend? Let not lash out at each other any more. You just made a bunch of assumptions about me that put me in a box. That isn't really cool. I have been through verbal and physical violence, I've seen and had to do violence I still have trauma about. Enough to really make me consider if it has any utility at all, except in self defense.
we want to have that self defense if we need it.
I do too! If it means anything, I'm sorry for what you have lived through, this world is so fucked up.
If we make hierarchies of suffering then we will lost I think. I respect your experience and understand maybe? Everyone should have access to self defense. Statistics and science aren't the only picture, but part of it. Gun violence does seem to depend on culture in complex ways. You make assumpitons and resort to ad hominem, I won't reciprocate that. Yeah, we have differing views. But I'm not trying to disarm anyone, just prevent harm from my viewpoint. And yeah I realize I could be wrong!

The real need is for legalization
Yup 100%
a_perfect_map wrote (edited )
Some places in the world you can buy Naltrexone or Naloxone or Narcan over the counter, some of which can be easily administered nasally in the event of overdose, like so common with fentanyl. :( If you take opiates I think it's a good idea to get some of this stuff, you could save someone's life realtalk. Probably difficult to steal something like that. Shit should be free.

Totally agree. They've had their summits, accords, green new deals, global emissions just rise and rise, nah we're done. The remaining question is how bad will it be: straight up surface of venus or just mad max?

Yeah either one has a potential waste logistics problem? I got to thinking about this in the first place when I marched during high temp and humidity conditions, this was only possible because the community and organizers came out and provided us with supplies, namely water and electrolyte drink. I try to bring extra for others too. As they say 'an army maches on its stomach', supply chain for protests, mobile or not, is super important to consider. This is my thinking anyhow?

Security is about eliminating trust. For example, FOSS needs less trust in others because transparency. VPNs do not eliminate trust in others, quite the opposite.
The only VPN that might be worthwile would be the one run by The Pirate Bay, even then I wouldn't.

Forgive me if I call the collective 'guys', I really don't mean that in a gendered sense, that goes for 'dude' as well.

I will argue against myself here:
IMHO Two autonomous zones exist mostly due to a populace armed with firearms, The Zapatistas Autonomous Zone in Mexico and the collective of Kurdish people.
Their existence the best arguement against my points I've heard and certainly gives me pause. Especially since Zapata is an amazing place to live with a quality of life far beyond anywhere in Mexico. Women and LGBTQA+ people in these places generally enjoy equal rights to men and can serve in their militaries.

I don't think I'm 100% right, guns are complex but why wouldn't data be part of a decsion you base your life on? Guns feel emotionally charged to me, I think that is a big problem.

Anarchists for capital punishment?
Like if we do violence, and I don't mean like looting and shit which is fucking fun and ethical in capitalism, I mean like this, mob justice, how are we different than the state? But I guess I disagreee on violence? Maybe I'm just getting old but I just don't have the hatred anymore. It doesn't seem to matter with the collapse coming. You get tired of life, the struggle and are ready for the end. I can't sleep hardly.
Maybe I see morality differently? Being a hard determinist, to whom free will cannot exist, well, punishment is almost never ethical to me.
It doesn't even matter anyway, in 30 odd years this planet will be uninhabitable to homo sapien. You all go do what you feel is best. I have no place to tell you what to do of course. Me, I'm going to reduce suffering, feed people, street medic it up, be there for others when they need to talk to someone. Build what community we can. Ideology doesn't seem to matter any more, its just suffering forever, my insides are rotten. Humans are like a terminal cancer patient, I will be like the morphine.
I feel like I just take up space here anyway and I'm too tired for this coming violence and the violent vibes on here. Again, do you but I got traumatic issues to deal with I guess. But I want to say thanks for helping me learn so much and being patient. Maybe we learned from each other, I hope so. I will always listen to the marginilized people who are stifled by patriarchy and look for a healthier masculinity. I would be proud to be alongside you all in the street, as equals. Your lives matter, they matter to me.
If I stressed you out or made you mad with what I wrote, don't be. It's just some randos opinion on the internet. If you practice letting stuff like that go, you get better at it and generally you will be happier. It's not easy I know, I worked on this my whole life. I don't matter, forget me and be happy.
If they hurt one of us, they hurt all of us.
