Democracy would have ended capitalism, it was on it's way, we had monopolies banned, we had EPA blocking mass environmental destruction, made child labor laws, made slavery illegal, created liveable wage, etc. Unfortunately America was slowly converting to an Oligarchy.
Of course the president could stop this immediately, that's his job, that's his responsibility. If he doesn't do that, then rip.

America - "I support Big Business!"
Big Business - "I support China!"
China - "I support North Korea!"
North Korea - "I will kill you America!"
America - "I will fuck you up North Korea!"
China - "You mess with NK, you mess with me!"
Big Business - "You mess with China, you mess with me, but you should totally attack North Korea."
North Korea - "Attack me America. Attack me!!!"
America - "Uh, uhh..." (BB loves me, would never leave me for another country, our threesome with China was so good, but now feels like BB not love me as much?) "Ok, I prepare for attack!" (BB would never leave me... I think..)

Leader's opinions trickle down to the public, unlike power/money. It's important to understand a person's bias because most leaders have a lot of money due to capitalism. It makes sense that they would support the means to their success and many people don't like to look at the negative effects/consequences of their decisions. If one bias is pushed too strongly, it can lead to extremism, division, and ultimately destruction. We've seen this with KKK, religion, Nazi Germany, slavery, etc and the Founding Fathers of America were very adamant against this. They tried creating a system where bias would be removed through democracy and today, we see rigged elections, gerrymandering, pre-chosen candidates, all too destroy our democracy to push their bias.

If I see a wasp in nature enjoying itself, I leave it alone.
If I see a wasp in my home, I make it leave.
If I see a wasp attack me, I kill it.

If I see a colony of wasps in nature, I leave it alone.
If I see a colony of wasps near my home, I kill it.
If I see a colony of wasps attack me, I'm dead.

Opera actually has a better safety score than Chrome according to the web based community Web of Trust
Opera Rating
Google Chrome Rating
Firefox is a option but I've tried it and it crashed like every 20 minutes. Opera is faster than Firefox and faster than Chrome. Using a VPN is safe and I don't know why you would mislead people like that, I've been using proxisy networks since I was a teenager and never had a problem.
As for proprietary software, I don't think you understand that definition. Properietary software is software that was developed and owned by an individual or company so you even contradicted yourself in your short post by recommending Firefox which is also a proprietary software.

Chrome collects your data and asks for permission to use your webcam and record your key strokes. It collects all the information, what sites you search and visit and record it to your IP address. Then Google works with the NSA, and gives these records over to the NSA where they have bots scan through all your records.
Opera uses a VPN so information isn't stored to a IP adress and Opera doesn't collect your information or ask to. Firefox is also an option but from my experience Firefox crashes all the time and is really annoying to use. Opera is light-weight and runs easily as fast as Chrome.
