Ugh. Again and again and again: why do regressives feel so threatened by immigrants, refugees and asylum-seekers? Such folk are coming here to build better lives foe themselves and, by extension, everyone around them.

I can only think that it's reaction to the industriousness of the newcomers, actually doing work to better themselves and and destroying the lie that the "better folk" (i.e., the white folk) are just naturally deserving of the finer things.

I blame poor journalism, and sensationalist editorial style that gives preferential treatment to stories based on their visceral shock value, as opposed to their relevance to the readers.
