Your idea has a high chance of working however the guy at the door (sports direct LA/PA/Protection Specialist) may ask to see a receipt and the contents of your bag if you put the shoes in a sports direct bag and/or if the entrance in which the guy is monitoring is near the paying counter (the guy may find you suspicious if he doesn't remember seeing you in line). You either need to be a smooth talker (have a story prepared in case the guy asks for a receipt and to see the contents of your bag) or improve your strategy.

Also, it's hard to tell you directly whether your strategy will work because you haven't given enough information. Are there a lot of employees that'll be watching you? What is the security level? Does the guy at the entrance usually check bags? etc. Since you don't provide this information I'll cover as many possibilities as I can without spending a sht ton of time on this.

Let's just say you go with this plan, if the guy decides to investigate further into why you have shoes in a sports direct bag and no receipt and anyone finds the empty box which once held your shoes or remembers you trying on shoes or looking at shoes within the store, that's bad, game over unless you don't mind pulling a runner. If you were to do the same thing but put the shoes in a bag with a different retail brand logo on it that's also risky BUT only bad if the guy at the entrance ends up wanting to check your bag.

Your best bet is using the substitution method and substitute shoes already on you (shoes you wear into the store [makeover substitution method] or shoes carried in a RETAIL bag [classic substitution method], any other bag is more suspicious) for the shoes you want. This means they'll be no empty shoe boxes and anyone looking at you will see you putting shoes back into the box before leaving. The substitution method works wonders and it's the one I use every time. This method works best when you substitute shoes you're wearing for the ones you want because you leave the store without the risk of having a bag checked as well as no one being onto you due to empty boxes and stuffing shoes into bags.

The makeover substitution method with no bags is the safest but it means you must sacrifice a pair of shoes you own or rack a pair of shoes beforehand to sacrifice (meaning you'll spend more time as you'll have to rack another store beforehand and find a place to stash your previously worn ones somewhere safe) before heading into sports direct.

It all comes down to your specific store security level/measures, personal comfort and CONFIDENCE, how much time you are willing to spend etc. For example, you don't need to use the safest option if the store sec is bad or you have a stellar story/excuse for having no receipt etc. If the guy doesn't even check bags then all this safety work has no point. Know your store.
