I forgot to take my antidepressant last night, and that gave me extremely deep and immersive nightmares. They were very detailed, very creative stuff, such as a roller coaster that takes us around an extremely large mountain at extremely high speeds. I could feel the wind, the fear, the gravity... words cannot describe how unique this dream was. I would have to show you.

I had 4 different dreams in one night. I woke up between each. After the last one, I got up and looked through my window. My vision was funny. The stars were waving around, moving strangely. Then I saw one satellite passing by. I quickly opened Stellarium to see it was the International Space Station. Then another one passed, but its light was oscillating, fading in and out of view, which suggested to me it was spinning out of control. Could it be Tiangong-1, the Chinese Space Station? Stellarium doesn't show it anymore.

Anyway, even after waking up, the real world looked different. My brain was still... like "hardwired" to the dream. I didn't remember how bad the world was. I didn't remember of my job. I didn't remember most facts of my existence. It was just that moment of magical lights and silence, 4:55 AM.

The computers at work are running Windows 7 and missing hundreds of updates. Since it would take many hours to install them, the "computer technician" that does the maintenance disabled updates completely, leaving the system full of holes. They actually do this on the systems they setup around the city. My coworker types their passwords on those machines (face palm). The boss disabled the firewall, UAC and antivirus permanently. They don't care about the implications of this, just want to get shit done.

The only one I know for GNU/Linux is ClamAV, but I don't know anyone who uses it. Antivirus software was useful back when the Internet was still rising in popularity and everyone would carelessly click everywhere and install everything.

Nowadays, better security is achieved through the design of the operating system itself, such as privilege control and security patches. This mitigates a large part of the problem, which leaves the vulnerability named "The User". An informed person will not need an antivirus to avoid getting an infected .pdf via email. An informed person will know when something seems suspicious.

If this world was fair, the headline would read "Police Officer kills a one-year old with his car". He actively caused a death by running into another car while driving way above speed limit and crossing a red light. With or without the seat belt properly applied, he is still a murderer.
