it's hard to really wrap ones mind around it. i saw on reddit this post about large numbers numbing ones brain and compassion e.x. 1,000,000 dead in an earthquake doesn't matter to me but when a friend of mine died I had a hard time.

another thing is that our individual lives are so short yet the mechanisms of society are long. The war on drugs has been around longer than I've been alive. Our dependence on plastic, oil, the same. I've never seen a world without it. I'm sure hundreds of millions, perhaps billions would agree.

i don't think we'l start to see substantial change in our society's relationship with nature until we start to be impacted by climate change and resource depletion.

something i find frustrating is respect shouldn't be based on how attractive they find them.
