Hey canadianqueen! That looks like a really high goal. Remember to always stay safe, and have a bite of something if you feel like you're going to pass out. Good luck, and welcome to the community!

Hi everyone,

I’m Lavender, and I’m a moderator for this community. I’ve been anorexic a few years. I’m Dutch at heart, though I moved to the USA at a young age. I hope to move back to the Netherlands one day, if I ever learn Dutch well enough.

I joined the orininal ProED subreddit to find support, and I want everyone to find that same support here.

Hi Rot,

Reddit administrators banned r/ProED for “promoting self harm.” I am unaware as to whether you were subscribed, but if you even looked at it, you would instantly be able to tell it was a support community. Anyone could have. This is why many of us are confused and outraged as to why we were banned. Your question is one that we are all asking.

Hi Rot,

I did read the article. I also, however, have a father who grew up with the tradition of Black Pete. I consider him to be a primary source regarding the celebration, contrary to the article’s outside look.

In regards to the “original story,” not all stays true to the original text. For example, in the original Cinderella, the stepsisters’ eyes were clawed out by birds. That isn’t the Cinderella story we all know and love, though, is it?

Black Pete is not blackface. However, I cannot account for others’ wrongful interpretation of a wholesome celebration. As I have stated, he is caucasian. His face is black because of the chimney ashes rubbing off on him.

I don’t understand why you felt the need to be rude, I was merely attempting to explain my interpretation of the article.

Hi Ziyal,

I’m a high school student, and by next Monday, I have to complete two essays, a major project, and two EOC review packets, for math and lit (about 20 pages long each).

For you, the problem seems to be deciding which to focus all your attention on. For me, times like these are when it’s the easiest.

I don’t know what you do, but I purely restrict. I don’t exercise, I don’t purge. I don’t have to take any time out of my schedule. If anything, I add time to my schedule, by cutting out eating.

The issue for me is to not eat food, to not crave food, to keep myself distracted completely from food. That’s why I love times like these. Times where I can just shut myself up in my room for a week and focus purely on my studies.

My advice? Don’t divide your attention. Focus purely on your studies, so deeply and strongly that you just completely forget about food altogether.

If I lose motivation, which I sometimes do, I blackmail myself. “If I don’t finish this, I’ll fail this class.” “If I don’t get an A on this, I won’t get into college.” “If I don’t get the top grade in the class, people will think I’m stupid.” “If I don’t do well, my parents will be disappointed in me.”

Of course, every ED is different, so I don’t know how well this applies to you. But I do hope I helped. Good luck!

I’ve heard about people getting upset about this, though I’ve never really understood it. My father grew up in the Netherlands, and Black Pete was a yearly part of Christmas celebrations. Anyone who actually did any research would know that Black Pete couldn’t possibly be making fun of those with dark skin, because he himself isn’t even black. Black Pete is caucasian. He appears black because gets covered in ashes when he goes down the chimney. It’s a real shame the way people are doing away with centuries of tradition just because of people look at it and say, “Hey, that’s racist.”

I think it’s unnecessary, but I also understand. If they are “walking a very thin line” with the admins, like they said, then supporting the ProED replacement could very well earn them the same fate. However, the EDsupport subreddit is very supportive of the new ProED, and it’s looking like they want to help us. As far as I’m aware, they have not reached an agreement with the Reddit admins, and know they could be banned at any moment.

Unlike many here, I have not tried peach. I’m not really sure what it is. How do I join, and is it worth joining? Also, I was unaware there was a discord server. I’d be interested in that possibly, but I’m unfamiliar with discord and not sure how to join.

What I have been using, however, is Kik. I don’t know how many of you use that, but I actually used it before Reddit. I did start to shift towards Reddit more and away from Kik, but after the subreddit ban, I went back there to find all my old friends there with open arms. It’s a bit more personal than Reddit, but it is a really great platform, if you can find the right groups. I have a few groups that I could invite you guys to, if you’d be interested in joining. :)

This seems like a really interesting and fun idea! Sadly, I do not have any ideas how to make it work. But I do have a suggestion: Black Mirror. It’s on Netflix, so it’ll be available to most.
