WOW that is scary. Was the employee who stopped you the one who was sort of monitoring the self-check? Did you legitimately purchase some items? Because you said she took your "things".Did you use a credit card? How big of a price difference was the items true price from the sticker you put on there? So strange since you had never been in that location. You wonder, did they just happen to be watching? I read somewhere that a person gets away with an average of 40 lifts before getting caught. I know Ive done many more (no big items) through the years but I try to remember odds are my time is coming. Keep us updated.

Amen sister! I am in the same shoes. I work 55+ hours a week, Its enough to survive. Its not enough to have the small comforts I desire for me and my family. Good CHEESE! Last night while grocery shopping I got dryjet for the dishwasher, new dishgloves, deodorant and shampoo, really just household necessities. I grew up in poverty and I do not need a luxurious lifestyle but it is nice to have more than 4 pairs of underwear in my drawer! Over the holidays, I did start some ebay selling (mostly craft/art items) and made around 5k in a short time, I was shocked! I knew I needed to stop before I got myself into trouble. I don't have a lot of extra time to go to stores, which I think is really good for me!

Smart. I don’t do this for a living but biggest lesson I’ve learned is don’t stay in store too long.

Do you do this for a living? How long have you done it for?

Unfortunately the color of your skin can matter but don’t let that deter you. You just gotta be better than most! Keep with the smaller lifts for a bit, you’ll feel it in your bones when you’re ready to go bigger.

Just for me, doubt in my body means DONT. I can’t be successful feeling that much angst. Maybe try some easier stores first until your nerves subside. Also, don’t stay long, get in and out! Be safe.

You are right, you don’t have to prove yourself to anyone. I don’t think anything is trying to hate on you, I think this is a sacred space that we can come and be completely authentic without judgment. And honest, about accomplishments, insecurities, and learning from one another. Thank you for sharing your experience, GOOD GOD, I’m getting underboob perspiration just thinking about that feat!!

You’re probably fine this time. I’ve lifted a lot of small things over the years from there but I don’t any longer after reading this forum, better safe than sorry!!
