I would not attribute everything I am seeing to black Friday.

I have watched Walmart implement different tactics over the past 18 months. They moved the globe cameras to the ones that blend in at the ceiling. They have checkers at every open exit at all times. They have moved almost all electronic items to locked display cases. They keep electronics staffed around the clock.

Home Depot has added more cameras. They moved almost all of their electronics and smart items off the shelf and only leave the tag that you can pickup the item at checkout. They have moved to having greeters. And this article talks about the issues they are having: https://www.securityinfowatch.com/security-executives/news/21107865/at-home-depot-and-other-retailers-a-tugofwar-with-shoplifters

  1. Start looking for places that you can access a bathroom after business hours. See if you can find somewhere that has a shower.
  2. If you don't already have quick dry clothing, find some and lift at least three of everything. REI has a great selection if you have one near you.
  3. Look for waterproof pouches, a good waterproof backpack, highly absorbent but quick drying towel. You want to keep your wet clothes wet and dry clothes dry.
  4. Hit up a few sports stores: REI, Academy, Dicks, Bass Pro and grab freeze dried food, jerky, can opener, knife...

... You want to stay as dry as possible as often as possible. Being able to look clean and presentable goes a long way to helping you lift. It is also good for your mental health. Stock up on food now so you don't have to worry about hunger for a few days. This will give you some time to think clearly and start finding resources to help.

I will come back and edit this with more information.

Walmart and HD have beefed up their security presence. I feel the staff at BB are all more alert and quick to offer customer service.

You can take an empty USPS box into any store that has a shipping counter. Fill the box in a blind spot, seal it, and then mail it.

Picked up hundreds of feet of PVC. I need to order a lot of plastic sheeting and I can get started on my hoop tunnels.

Almost 38 days with every day above 90. Today was 97 degrees. My garden is a total loss.

I am going to try my hand at a larger hydroponic setup for fall and winter.

Several of these I have started and still continue.

  • Martial arts for almost two years. Started with Korean TaiKwonDo but looking to switch to Wing Chun and then learn a little Thai Kickbocking, Judo, and a grappling art.
  • Joined a minorities shooting club. Received my conceal carry license. Bought several hand guns, shot gun, rifle, and searching for a carbine that I find comfortable.
  • Started yoga and working hard on my stretches. Also doing kettle bells and body weight exercises. Not sure I will do parkour given my back, neck, knee and wrist injuries.
  • I have several small gardens. My fall crops are pretty much a disaster after 30+ days of 90-100 and no rain. I was going to put in irrigation but I am saving my money to buy a few acres.
  • Myself and seven friends all volunteer at community gardens, help plant food forests, and we have adopted a local school that we make food for and the kids take home backpacks over the weekend so they have several meals. This little group has been the genesis of many ideas and I look forward to our meeting every week.

Where I fall short is first aid. I keep my CPR certification but that is really basic. I do need to learn first aid and medicine. I have so many irons in the fire right now I am not sure I will have the time bandwidth to to tackle these for several months.

My writing is very poor. I need to make room in the day to start my academic studies. It is has been too many years since I was in a classroom and I struggled with math and composition.

I have to improve my IT knowledge. Gain a firm understanding on digital privacy methods. I have enough computers and network equipment I need to setup a good filesharing service. And keep working on my Linux skills.

The elephant in the room is working on my mental health. At some point I have to deal with the losses from this year and find a creative outlet for it vs just working more so I don't have to think about it.

Thanks for posting this. I spent a good part of today in self reflection.
