OnStar service, but it hadn't been switched off. The 2001 case [didn't end well](https://www.techdirt.com/articles/20031119/1551224.shtml) for law enforcement. It wasn't that the court had an issue with the eavesdropping ... enforcement. While OnStar denies it collects location info, it too has a [stolen car recovery](https://www.techdirt.com/articles/20071009/022511.shtml) mode that allows OnStar to track vehicles.
