It's not ideal, but it'll do in a pinch. PGP encryption is very good, but it's still not a bad idea to minimize the number of servers your data is going through.

A lot of this applies to all communication, obviously, but:
If you're sending pictures, don't take them with a smartphone. Take them with a camera or something else that does not have any kind of network connectivity.
Use an encrypted, p2p messaging platform. Do Not use a service like Wire or telegram with a centralized server, even if the clients and server are open source. Good options for this are GNU Ring or Tox.
Strip metadata from pictures. You can do this in GIMP.
Obviously, try to remove any personal data from messages and pictures. Obscure faces and don't use your real name. Don't use a username you've used somewhere else.
Is there something specific you're concerned about?
