There are plenty of different apps to encrypt text, without having to complicate your life using books. Even in countries with a dictatorship they are used, either by converting the text with different methods (SHA or others) or/and by hiding them in innocent vacation photos or of your cat, using steganography apps.

This text above encrypted using an app has this aspect, only needed a simple click.

Encryption has been used for millennia using different methods, some similar using books or other texts, they can still be used, but they are impractical and prone to errors. Even if the recipient has the same book at hand, depending on the edition, it may, for example, differ in the number of pages due to having a different format, making a translation impossible for him.
