I know it's like a meme to say "read Desert", but to encourage people to actually read it, would anyone like to start a group for it? I'm not sure how long it is, but I figured we could create a thread and discuss a certain range of the text to read during a week's time. But whatever works for people, I'm willing to try. It'd just be to encourage readers to finish and to bounce ideas off each other while going through it.

Sorry, I somehow missed this comment! This what we've discussed so far:

I think 5 weeks sounds good to me; 2 chapters per week, and the last week can also act as a sort of reflection on the whole text / how it relates to today's issues. I'll also take your advice and crosspost the plan to certain subreddit that would probably be friendly to the idea.

Should we start right on July 1st--so next Wednesday?

I wouldn't be able to, unfortunately, but I'll read what you all talk about and might be able to contribute anyway since I've read the book a couple times at least.

I have only read about the first half, and that was a while ago, so I might.

So I looked it up, and Desert is just over 34,000 words, which isn't very long. I think we all could knock it out in about six weeks, which equals a little over 5500 words read per week. Does that sound like a reasonable rate to everyone, or is there a better way to divide up the reading?
