I'm from the Canadian prariers so it gets really cold. This is what you need to do:

  • LAYERS are your best friend!!
  • heat packs you can put in your shoes/gloves
  • invest in a pair of good winter boots. if the inside of your shoe get wet with snow you're going to be miserable
  • hot water/tea/broth.
  • bring an extra pair of socks
  • see if you can bring a small space heater into your office for your desk

I'm from Canada too and holy heck getting up in the mornings feels like actual torture; I live in the mountains and it's already started snowing ;n;

Oh man how do you survive up there?! Do you have snow yet?

Just get used to it I gues haha. It's winter for ~6-8 months of the year. Yes! It first snowed in September, it melted and then it snowed again a few weeks ago. This time it will stick for a good couple of months though!

Depends on your dress code. Fleece pants are really warm. Or just wear thermal underwear under your pants. Keeping your feet warm is really important to overall body warmth. Get nice thermal socks. Wear a warm vest if it's an option.

Socks are so important! I often wear two pairs of my shoes allow it.

I wear my coat in the office lol. Plus I have a blanket that I put on my lap if it's really chilly.

Yeah I have a big scarf that doubles as a blanket. In an earlier job a girl actually had a blanket at work! The coat is a really good idea!

Hi Favisnugget,

Earlier this week, the heating system in my step mom’s office broke down, so she brought in a space heater. I don’t know if your office allows this, but I hope I helped!

I bought this jacket https://www.eddiebauer.com/product/womens-lodge-down-duffle-coat/20612164?showProducts=&sizetype=&size= (lots of similar ones) and wear it everywhere with a hat, scarf, and gloves. Have been known to wear it inside as well!

Is it weird that I like being cold because it makes me feel skinny?

favisnugget OP wrote

Not weird. At least not in the ed world ha. That coat is super nice- it looks like it is somewhat fitted? That’s always the problem with down coats! They’re usually so bulky and just a straight line down making one look like a marshmallow. I love your taste!

I have a space heater, a blanket, an extra sweater stashed in a drawer, along with a pair of thermal socks I can slip on as needed. I always wear a tank type shirt under a t-shirt, with a sweater or bigger shirt over the top.

My office has next to no dress code, so I'm lucky that I can layer up until I look homeless and nobody glances twice.

Damn you can pull off homeless chic. Not fair you’re so lucky!!

What kind of thermal socks? Do you mean like wool?

GlitterVega wrote

Wool socks are awesome, I like to layer them with something thin underneath. I generally look for anything that brands itself as a "hiking sock", because they tend to last next to forever and are super thick. I love these too for super lazy wear.

Electric heated socks - I wear them every day and they are a life saver.

Those are a thing?!?

Yes!! And they are amazing. The ones I have are made by global vasion - I think you can find them on Amazon.
