For myself, no. For others, it'd be a good resource or opportunity. I'm at the point where I haven't read a meaningfully different permaculture book in years. But, I do read a lot of research papers about permaculture-adjacent topics.

Right now, I'm really learning a lot about tree root development. Trying to figure out the most plant-centric way of growing trees. Right now, it seems like direct seeding with some form of herbivory protection. Most of the reasearch is slanted towards methods for how to make money...so like different potting strategies and whatnot. But I like seeing what the scientists are up to even if I don't agree with the general direction of their research.

Direct seeding no longer works in climate change ravaged regions of the world. It gets too hot and the seedlings dry up.

Yeah, fortunately I'm in a spot that models have predicted will be one of the least impacted by climate change in the world in terms of drought and temperature fluctuation.

What about if you use a heavy mulch layer. Maybe 4-6" of mulch. Do you think that would be enough to keep the ground soil moist and cooler?

If you use seed balls during the rainy season, wait for them to germinate, and then lay on the mulch before the dry season. Otherwise the mulch would smother the seedling. You could get maybe 2% success rate doing that here with native seeds or 5% if planting in a trench. They'd die to the root in summer but come back stronger the next year.

7.5 to 10 cm is recommended.

Have you looked into KNF - Korean Natural Farming?

I have. I love that it's Koreans who basically use fermentation for soil building since I really like fermenting foods. And Koreans ferment a lot of food too. Fun that a technological process transcends one thing to the other.

To link to it here should I make a post here and point to the post in /f/filesharing or make the post in filesharing and link back to this sub?
