I'll check, it's pretty built around spawn but they have a teleport network to open areas iirc

How built up is it? I dont like worlds where the congested spawn takes a half hour to leave and I'm passing houses well out into the 10th kilometre.

I like https://illuna-minetest.tk/, they're run by the folks at tchncs.de and it's better to have a well maintained server by experts

Currently, there's no official server but you can use your machine as a host for others to connect. I haven't played with 5.0 yet so I don't know if the menu has changed, but when it boots you can select to connect to a server, play by yourself or create a new host.

I mean if it is any help I have a minecraft communist server if you want to play that (v100v.us.to)

This does sound interesting, but I do not really trust a home brew operation that much considering it is unverified. It would be neat if this ran in browser, I would like so see what comes of this.

you have to add mods for extra stuff, most servers have them already but if you play locally you have to download some

Isn't minetest just an engine? Where do you download the maps or whatever?
