Site wide IP ban or just from each of our individual subs?

I don't think a site wide ban is appropriate, this should be handled by mods rather than admins. Besides, they'll just change IP and keep coming back.

Yeah that breaks the ToS, didn't notice that one.

EDIT: They're using Tor so IP banning won't help. I'll just delete their grosser posts and enourage you all to ban them from your subs.

If you ban their account, they'll just make a new one. If you ban their IP, they'll change it. This seems like a good case to use a shadowban. /u/emma, would you consider implementing shadowbans for times like this?

Do you mean not showing comments from new users until they're approved by a moderator or admin? I think that would put a lot more work on the mods/admins, especially as the userbase gets bigger.

I see a problem, though. If all the moderators for a particular forum are offline when a new user posts something, it could take hours for a mod to come online and approve their comment, and by then the discussion could be mostly over. That might turn away new users. I don't think we necessarily have to be honest to the type of people we'd want to shadowban.

Is there a way to ban him without him actually posting in a forum?

I don't think so, but I don't think forums should ban people that have never posted on them anyhow.
