This would be an amazing feature; much better than creating throwaway accounts.

I like this idea better than the plan to let anyone post anonomously without needing to make an account. This way spammers and trolls won't be able to abuse the anon function and the site won't become 4chan.

hiding it from mods could be bad, i could see it being abused pretty easily

Maybe the username should be retained in the Raddit database, then, and not displayed to the users. That way, if a mod clicks "ban", the system would still know who to ban.

Possibly require a minimum number of previous posts as well.

Why?

I was thinking that would be a way to filter out legit posters. But recent events seem to contradict that.

I don't see why you'd have to be considered a legitimate poster to use the feature. If Raddit itself retains who the original poster was, but that information isn't shown to anybody, the account that posted it could still be banned, if needed. And what if a new user has something they want to say anonymously, but they can't because they're so new? They would have to wait for their account to reach the age limit, or create a throwaway account. I see no reason to restrict the feature to mature accounts, and a good reason not to.

What kind of uses do you imagine this being used for?

Sometimes I post articles without reading them all the way through and don't want to attach my name to them in case they're not up to raddit's high anti-reactionary standards. I can't vet the writer of every article.

If you're referring to me, I understand that the OPs don't necessarily agree with everything said in the article. My criticisms are towards the actual authors, not the messengers.

So, basically, you want a re-implementation of 2ch?
