u/jorgesumle and u/mofongo had some great responses here, but we should honestly get at the root of what caused the problem. Start by checking the log file for tor services /var/logs/tor and the logs for what's serving tor, hopefully not apache as it is massive and can leak ip info if not hardened, probably thttpd, savant or similar. If docker isn't necessary and still hogging resources it needs to be shut down and disabled so it won't start on reboot.

Looks exactly the same to me, are you using the right onion link? http://lfbg75wjgi4nzdio.onion

done. It let me upgrade tor on the server but doesn't look like it fixed the problem.

quandyalaterreux wrote

Thanks! Do you know how to add v3 onion support to the site? (It's just a matter of adding some lines in your torrc and restarting the tor instance)

mofongo wrote (edited )

What /u/quandyalaterreux said. Possibly tor removed support for the experimental branch. Changing to stable may downgrade the tor version you're currently on.

Also remove the docker ppa. We were only using that for the experimental search feature. It also caused a site outage by running in the background and taking up all the ram available. Use top to check if it's running and how much ram it's taking.

Edit: also find out if docker is being used for anything else before removing it.

ziq wrote (edited )

anyone know if docker is used for anything else in postmill?

EDIT: I removed the ppa. If something breaks, I'll put it back.

Inputting 'top' - I do see that docker is running tho. I'm hesitant to apt remove it.

mofongo wrote

I check postmill's requirements. Docker is not needed for it to run and we have a vanilla installation. It should be fine to remove it.

ziq wrote

ok, doin it now

disfalo wrote

No, you probably want to check if the tor service is running by executing:

systemctl status tor

Also, now everyone knows that the server runs Ubuntu, I don't know if that was public before.

yeah, i was going to comment on that.. I mean, at least use Debian for christs sake, also revealing the sites sources.list file is a little sloppy
