I'm sorry if my feature request sounds like a newspaper headliner. I am not of sufficient value when it comes to programming and i'm already trying. I'm sorry for bothering the admins and freelance programmers for their time within meta and wish to work with you when i can finally understand how programming works.

Linking to copyrighted content is already against the rules, because raddle is primarily a clearnet accessible service and is theoretically liable under netherlands copyright laws. Beyond the security issues with PDF files, both for the server host as well as everyone who downloads a copy of a bad file uploaded to the site, there is also the possible legal problems with having illegal content on the server unless the information/document is copyleft etc. you cannot trust a public server to not be abused by someone on the hidden service instance, so it just opens the door to issues for the administrators of the website i think.

I think what is a better idea, is to translate appropriate short texts (there's a character count limit) into the wiki. copy-paste is your friend. This avoids the security issues, and it disincentivizes people to share things casually which are likely to cause legal problems.

I think that something which would help the wiki a lot, would be improved picture formatting for postmill's markdown. but that's a feature request, and beyond the scope of this discussion.

edit: also, there are other websites, such as theanarchistlibrary, or the various torrent websites. You can also look into IRC chats. Raddle, however, isn't really designed to robustly protect people in faciliating access to restricted content; it's designed to be a relatively safe place for anonymous discussion. Different design goals, different design choices, different outcomes.

pdfs aren't safe, so I wouldn't want this feature. they can easily contain malware

upload to a third party like internet archive or a photo sharing site as an image like imgur then link it. downloading over raddle is a bad idea
