John Brown actually was entirely libertarian and opposed capitalism and wanted things to be owned either collectively or communally (the first according to actions and the second according to family writings). He also supported gender equality, and supported the women's right to vote far before anyone else did. Overall, he was a really fuckin' cool dude.
