I was scheduled to have Esophageal Dilation on Wednesday. I already had a bad case of GERD that contributed to my esophagus narrowing due to scar tissue. This resulted in food getting lodged multiple times during the day and some occurrences I had to go to the ER to get the food dislodged.

The surgery was postponed because the damage is very massive. The doctor felt any attempts at dialation could result in my esophagus rupturing. In addition to GERD my doc says I have Barrett’s esophagus. They took multiple cultures to check for cancer.

I will need to make drastic changes to my diet and lifestyle. Every 30 days I go back under sedation to attempt dilation again. I have 120 days for my medication to make positive changes or I may need to remove a portion of my esophagus. Right now I am moving to 100% fruit and vegetables and drinking smoothies for almost all of my meals.

This entire charade has really put a crimp into my blanket heist plans.

My little group was hoping to snag a couple dozen blankets to donate to a homeless shelter. We have picked up a fairly sizable amount of boots, socks, undergarments, and base layers.

Owch, you're choking the whole time on the way to the ER?

It is more of a rolling gag reflex. My throat and stomach convulse in unison to attempt to bring the food up. It is a horrible feeling for about 10-15 minutes. After that I feel pure exhaustion.
