Shitty day at work. Was tired after pulling an all-nighter and ended up running git reset --hard in the wrong directory, giving me so much fucking trouble.

so I might be a demiguy. but idk because I only found out what one was yesterday. I may also be somewhat genderfluid because there are times I feel significantly more feminine, but like it never lasts more than like 15 minutes lol. possibly also polysexual and maybe demisexual. that one might be a bit fluid too. really I have no idea at this point

It feels really fuckin weird typing this out lmao. I've rarely felt particularly masculine but I've gone through most of my life convincing myself that I'm a cisman that simply doesn't care enough about their gender identity to be bothered by it. part of me just wants to go "bah, they're all just labels" and stop worrying about it but I don't think that's a very helpful approach

8

Tequila_Wolf wrote (edited )

Sounds like you're thinking about it in worthwhile ways. It can take a while to figure things out, and being genderfluid can mean there's always some figuring to do.

Why would you hate extinction rebellion?

1

El_Sabate wrote

SOOOOOOOO many reasons.

A bunch of libs and radlibs thinking that getting arrested or blocking trains will lead to any meaningful change. They continually work with cops and 99.999% of them make sure that everything they do is coloring within the lines and fits within the kind of protest that is both easily ignored and easily co-optable.

7

Dumai wrote

i thinking blocking public transport can be a useful tactic, especially when connected with other tactics. hong kong protesters do it. blm did it. the 2006 youth protests in france did it. there's clearly power in disrupting a city's public transport, idk how anyone can say there isn't, though that doesn't mean i agree with how XR are going about it

but the issue on twitter i was referring to is that a lot of people seem to think disrupting "ordinary people's lives" is inherently classist which is wild and fucky

debored wrote

I sometimes get the urge to crash my car while I'm driving to work. And then I worry that my boss would just call me in the hospital and ask me to do things from my hospital room.

6

El_Sabate wrote

Yeah, that's a weird reactionary streak errupting onto twitter. I agree that disrupting public transport can be a good tactic. I think the way they did it was stupid, I don't think it was combined with the right tactics and overall strategy, and I think the targets they choose could have been attacking capitalism and the economy in much more meaningful and tactically important ways.

5

bloodrose wrote

My husband thinks they should've blocked car traffic instead, like shutting down a highway. I think any disruption to the system is good, though. So I'm ambivalent.

4

Dumai wrote (edited )

they probably should have done that or (as libcom on twitter pointed out) tried the same thing at westminster, which is as much of a choke point but also means all the people they'd be shown confronting on the news would be in suits

They make a lot of bad choices, and are very willing to work with businessmen who most definitely do not have their best interests in mind.

https://rebellion.earth/event/xr-red-handed-rebellion/

Here's an example of them throwing activists away - they simply make one very minor move, and then run in to the police station to get arrested. It's keeping people from taking actual important action in favor of making them tools simply for filling jails.

El_Sabate wrote

I may be being actively crushed by this capitalist hell-world, but my view of the Vermont folliage from my office is continually breath-taking. It is bittersweet - a connection to the beauty of nature, but also a reminder that I could be out enjoying it, really connecting to it and living in it, but I'm stuck behind this glass...

8

Tequila_Wolf wrote

Yeah, in some of the cities I spend time natural beauty is an almost terrifying contrast with the social hellscape it's part of. It's very strange.

That suuucks. I'm lucky that I've got access to pretty hefty anxiety pills for times like that.

Ideally I wouldn't take them, but sometimes I'm immobilised without them.

6

SomeIconoclast wrote

Most of my anxiety comes from having to live up to responsibilities and expectations given to me by a society that I don't care about and frankly want to leave.

Unfortunately, I can't exactly leave without participating in systems that I despise and it's fucking maddening.

I've been taking hormones for a deficiency for a month. It's also been a month since my boss went out on maternity leave. I'm feeling a lot better and happier but I can't tell if it is the hormones or the lack of a boss. I'm not getting as much work done and am spending about half the day fucking off, so it really could be either...

I spend hours looking at land for sale, contemplating moving. I can really only afford areas where it snows a lot, desert, or Kentucky. It's getting depressing because none of those places are good for my family. If I were alone, I could handle any of those places...but I have two other people to consider.

Excited to be off school for a week.

Has anyone read Bellamy's Corrosive Consciousness? I'm only like a third through it but I've really been loving his writing lately. Hopefully finish it today then onto Critique of Black Reason.

6

Tequila_Wolf wrote (edited )

It's basically impossible to get where I am, and whenever I have friends coming from other places I'm too low on money to ask them to get it. So maybe next year, unless someone gets round to uploading it. I tend to like all of Bellamy's writing, except some elements of his egoism sometimes seems basic even when it's hard to believe that it would be the case.

I'm curious about how you'll do with CBR.

4

debored wrote

I can sorta respect the paper only thing ... but it's also like just upload it already ffs.

4

Tequila_Wolf wrote

There's something a little paternalistic about the paper-only thing. I feel like there has to be a better way to go about doing whatever they're trying to do with that.

Really what it means for me is that I get stuff like that really late and only half of the time. And what that means for the whole continent I'm on is that the couple issues of Backwoods or whatever that I get are likely the only ones on the continent.

4

debored wrote

Yeah I think it's just stubbornness. They seem to want a return to something like letters to the editor instead of the endless hot takes of the internet, but really they just limit their audience.

It's a pretty violently scathing critique of Tucker & Zerzan. Disappointing that Zerzan refused to respond to it. I don't know if Tucker did either.

4

Tequila_Wolf wrote

I'd imagined it was some kind of principled stance against the relatively complex technology of computers and the internet.

Disappointing that Zerzan refused to respond to it

I wonder why he wouldn't.

3

debored wrote

Could be that with Bellamy I guess, but LBC does the same thing with Black Seed and Aragorn! is pretty invested in internet platforms. Bellamy also goes on podcasts & stuff, posts on internet forums occasionally, etc. so he's not some sort of purist about the internet when convenient.

disenchanted season 2 came out a couple weeks ago. it's still not as good as futurama, but it's okay.

titans is great this season. only live action superhero show I like.

young justice is as good as it ever was.

succession is great once you realize you're supposed to hate all the characters for being filthy rich fucks who fuel fascism and the forever wars with their control of the media.

south park has been good this season.

have you thought about watching the dc universe animated movies? a lot of them are good, especially the ones with Damian in them: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DC_Universe_Animated_Original_Movies

The new Breaking Bad movie was good if you watched that show.

The Righteous Gemstones is a fun comedy, about a family of rich preachers

The Walking Dead has been better than its been in years since they changed showrunners to angela kang

Watchmen starts this week.

Bojack Horseman's final season hits next week.

Silicon Valley's final season starts in 2 weeks.

I'm about to watch Wu-Tang: An American Saga

What is time dysphoria?

Have you considered joining Alcoholics Anonymous?

3

Tequila_Wolf wrote

What is time dysphoria?

It's a concept used between me and some friends who like to think around liberating/decolonising time. It's a lot, relating to how time is understood and conceptualised under current oppressive structures, how much these structures exist to steal our time, to seep into time that pretends to be our own, to leave us always feeling like we have no time to do what we need and desire, that time is up, and also various kinds of responses to this, for example the antiwork tendency. Nobody gets to even think about what kind of lives they would want to live if all their time is gone, nevermind organise themselves based on those values. Time is one very undertheorised axis that we can understand oppression through.

Have a look around f/Time for more reading if you like.

1

There isn't. Many on this site are only tangentially interested in elections, so most things in relation to Bernie would go to f/USA. I think there's some kind of waiting period before new users can make new forums - but in the meanwhile I'd recommend posting to f/USA as that's what people are familiar with.
