I know most people here understandably think voting is not very cool, but knowing how people vote can obviously give you some idea of their political opinions, so even though it's about voting behaviour, I don't think this article is totally useless. So with that in mind, I think folks here would probably find it pretty interesting to read this article, which finds that unhappy people are more likely to support populist/authoritarian candidates/ideas.

The article also explains that currently it is known that "having a strong economy" is correlated with "people voting for incumbents", which means politicians (who want to keep their power) are incentivised to make the economy strong. The same logic can be used to see that authoritarians are incentivised to make people unhappy.

I don't think that's incredibly surprising news to anyone, but I do think it could be nice to have some data supporting that.

I'm not sure how many people here are interested in converting authoritarians, but knowing this correlation might be of some use to those of you who do do that.
