I've been trying to read Foucault's The Order of Things: An Archaeology of the Human Sciences for like a week now
The first chapter is an exhaustive analysis of one painting and it's dreary and impossible to concentrate throughout
I'm thinking I'm just going to skip the chapter and stop putting myself to sleep
I've never gotten through more than a chapter or two of Foucault. Really hate his writing style.
I got through the first quarter of DIscipline and Punish but I barely retained any of it and I would lose my bookmark and end up rereading sections without even realizing it
I've only read his short piece on parrhesia some time ago
Am hoping this one gets better!
its probably a bad idea to start with order of things, most people start with history of sexuality
i started with archaeology of knowledge because it was most relevant to my interests at the time (intellectual history) which hahahaha was a mistake
