a lot of independent tabletop game writers and artists are quitting. there’s a lot of reasons but a lot of it comes back to the gross monopoly held by dungeons and dragons and wizards of the coast, and their consistent terrible decisions.

a lot of the time those decisions are related to sensitivity and understanding of race/culture/whatever. here’s the latest:

wizards of the coast release a new “race” that people can play as in dnd. it’s a race of monkeys. those monkeys are slaves. the only reason you can play as them as because they were “set free” by another race—the beautiful white elves. but the monkeys don’t want to be free; they want to be slaves. so they volunteer to be “servants” for the beautiful white elves.

the art for one of these monkeys is a pose for pose matchup to an old jim crow minstrel playing a banjo.

because a huge portion of dnd players are fuckin gross racists, they start saying “what’s the problem? dnd has always had racial stereotypes” and start pointing to all the other examples of times when dnd was racist as fuck, because that makes it okay.

and because this company has a monopoly on the ttrpg space it both bullies out small indie creators and also draws in a fanbase of absolutely toxic human sludge who have nothing but hatred for all of the indie writers and artists who are not-white, not-male, not-straight (pick as many as you like).

so that’s happening too.

The Kiwifarms drama has continued since CloudFlare dropped them. At first they hopped over to a Russian domain with DDoS protection from DDoS-Guard, known for hosting and protecting a variety of far-right and organized crime related websites. That lasted less than 24 hours. Then they went Darknet-only for a day before resurfacing under a Chinese-hosted .top domain, which was also short-lived and the server is currently inaccessible. They also got scrubbed from the Wayback Machine Internet Archive.

Josh Moon (the site owner) has been intermittently posting rant after rant where he copes and seethes over the organized effort to bring down his doxing and stalking forum. Every time another blow has been struck towards KF, Twitter has been getting filled up with #PACKWATCH and RIPBOZO gifs. It's great stuff.

I don't know how you feel about the archive.org purges, but I am a little disappointed. I definitely support suspending serving archives, at least until the dust settles and the content can be scrubbed to protect KF victims. But I do think having an archive is useful broadly.

I don't really know what was hosted on KF, though, so it very well may be 100% doxxing material in which case there is not much left to archive after it has been scrubbed.

It's pretty much all doxing, stalking, harassment, suicide-goading, transphobia, ableism, racism, fatphobia. Nothing of value to someone who isn't an absolute shithead.

Josh Moon has stated his intents to upload the entire site as a torrent in case it is taken down for good. In its current state, that would be over 7 TB of data according to him. Obviously, that archive is not gonna get scrubbed of anything. But if someone wants to go through the pain-staking effort of sifting through 7 TB and scrubbing all the dox material off it, it won't be me. That entire cesspit of a forum can disappear from the net forever as far as I'm concerned.

there is a chess grandmaster called hans niemann who beat the world champion in a tournament game. the world champion then rage quit the tournament and posted a cryptic tweet on twitter about “not being allowed to talk”. chess streamers on twitch then started going wild with accusations of cheating and the critical mass of the internet piled onto hans niemann (who is pretty young btw. he’s like 18 or 19) with all these accusations resulting in him being struck off from an upcoming tournament and having his chess.com account banned. hans is a kid who has also previously talked about feeling suicidal just for losing chess games and here he is being dogpiled into the ground by all his peers and the internet. so after a few days of this he gets on the tournament interviews and just calls out the world champ and all these streamers like “fuck you all, i’ll play chess naked in a box if you want me to, i’ll still beat you”.

so that’s where that’s at, and that’s what’s going on there. some kid being bullied by the internet because the world champ threw a temper tantrum after losing a game.

(also he might have cheated—nobody knows, but it’s still wild drama)

didn't he admit to cheating twice in the past?

zoom_zip OP wrote

yeah he said he cheated once when he was 12 and didn’t even know it was cheating, and once when he was 16

  • league of legends character akali got her voice changed to a newer VA (that was also voicing a new skin for akali) but people didn't like it and were all pissy about it on the internet so riot games changed the voice back to the old one.

  • a belgian (iirc?) league of legends pro called someone "sbhman" (subhuman) in chat in a usual flame session. Unfortunately, he was signed to a german sports org and in german subhuman (untermench) is considered antisemite because of nazis. So his contract got cancelled and he complained about it on twitter.

imagine being a voice actor and getting your big break in league of legends and then pissy children complain about your voice to their corporate dad who rolls back over so he can keep taking their pocket money

Idk, it usually means the original actor asked for a raise and so was replaced. Look what almost happened with Bender on Futurama.

Bardolph a caster from CS:GO is unable to cast since a longer time major games, simply due to the greed of some capitalists behind the scenes and he dared to call them out (although in a capitalist friendly way, I'm unsure how politically he stands). Also a lot of right-wingers are casting in CS:GO unfortunately, for example HarryG who was big on crypto just a while ago.

reminds me of when 2gd got fired by gabe newell in the middle of the dota international for swearing and calling out how badly the show was put together and then gabe newell tweeted something like “james is an ass”.

CS:GO feels pretty right wing by nature with their premise being about terrorist/anti-terrorist and planting bombs and stuff.

god i love how they got an actual asoiaf nerd to work on the show

2

That doesn't always work out (just look at star trek picard), but hopefully this nerd is the reason the show is so good and not the co-showrunner who just quit

2

Archaplain wrote

i have been watching interviews of the guy and he actually knows his stuff plus the showrunner who left also worked on the original show and he was just the battle scenes guy from what i gather
