turns out that the area I live in averages 12 days a year when the temperature reaches over 100f (38c rounding up). This year so far there's been twice that. I know that you can't really be like "ah! global climate change!" based on daily weather trends but fuck it's been hot. And I think that heat with the combination of not very much rain at all has killed the peach trees in the front of my house. :(

They're still green, they'll be fine. Once a tree is developed they're pretty resilient.

You'd be surprised at what plants make a recovery. Honestly more often I kill plants by over watering. That said some of my shrubs out front are really struggling during their first summer. We've had lots of direct sunlight and humid heat. They're more used to either dry and hot (desert) or cool and wet (foggy).

plants are mysterious and i do not understand them. all i know is that in the fight between the weed and the concrete the weed always wins and i think that's pretty cool.

look at all that fruit though!! It seems like the branches broke under the weight of the fruit and from the wood being brittle (from being it drier than usual). They'll totally come back though they're not dead! Just need a comprehensive pruning come spring.
