Over the last couple months, I'm averaging one person a week that I know dying of COVID. Neighbours, parents of friends, former teachers, family friends etc.
How about you all?

5 people since the start of the pandemic

I'm fortunate enough that no one in my life has died of COVID, but I do worry for my family members who work jobs where physical distancing is unavoidable.

Luckily, I haven't had anyone close die and only 1 got very sick.

I haven't been on raddle much recently but been feeling a need for a more sane discourse. I have next to zero interest in the political topics most of my friends/family care about and its exhausting trying to discuss anything I feel would be meaningul with them.

Not good enough for general use though. She's trapped on MacOS sadly.

Been keeping an eye on how that's progressed, but seems far from usable right now. I'm very interested though, especially seeing as Apple's decided they're now going to play cop on peoples' devices.

There are communities where I live who are like one bad earthquake (which regularly happen) away from this and aren't prepared at all. Makes me scared.

Looking forward to getting into a more regular schedule. Since moving early in 2021, I've yet to really have a reliable schedule. For the most part, I work, play video games, and have social commitments placed upon me by my partner (we moved closer to their family). But now, I've found a decent meditation studio I like, found my regular walking meditation areas, and have found grocers where I can by relatively cheap bulk (loose) grains and legumes.

I like buying whole millet, oats, wheat, rice, barley, lentils (red and green), black beans, black eyed peas, pinto beans, red beans, and great northern white beans.

God, fixing wells fucking sucks. Every part about fixing them stresses me out a ton. I imagine it is a more horrible situation if you don't have secondary sources of water.

I've only known one person to get sick. In the US almost everyone is treating it as fairly benign at this point. Tho that's the privilege of living in the US for you.

Tutorials tend to be oriented toward people who need lots of hand holding. If you know the fundamentals and how to be self sufficient, by all means read the API docs directly. It will be quite faster.

Also I feel like I am stuck in an endless loop working on my code. I have determined that coding is 90% putting something together, realizing there's a better way of doing it, and then redoing like 50% of your code and adding an additional 20% more code. then rinse and repeat.
This is a good way of learning, btw, even if you feel you're hitting a brick wall right now.
NoPotatoes wrote
Yeah I would say the most important factor to learning is shorting the feedback loop between making a change to the code and getting your results.

how do you like millet best? i know what it is, but i don't think i actually ever cooked it myself. lately i feel like i eat too much white rice for my liking - i mean i love rice, but i'd like to get more variety.
also i just learned what legumes actually means, i somehow thought it was just another word for vegetables. but yeah, i've been wanting to eat more of those too. sometimes i go weeks without eating any beans and then i'm like what the hell why? feeding yourself in a varied yet local and seasonal way can be the sort conscious effort i don't always have the energy to

Honestly the way I use millet and red lentils the most is to make flatbread with them. Basically, you just grind them into flour (i have a good blender), mix the flour with water and salt, and pan fry. It's so damn simple and so good. One flour at a time, i've never mixed em, although that sounds good. I might mix one of them with masa today to see if it keeps the tortilla consistency.

I'd love to hear more on what u mean by the blatant propoganda on raddle. Not saying ur wrong or looking to debunk u btw

Oh alright, i see! I do the flour/water/salt pan fry bread from time to time with store bought wheat flour and i've been looking for alternatives anyways so i'm glad you shared that! so far i've only tired using tapioca instead but that didn't go so well.
I don't know if my blender is effective enough, but i'll give millet flour making a try. also i did not know masa existed, but now i really want to try that too!

tru! compared to the other 3 he definitely had too little screen time/background story. it got a little more towards the end, but still!
i liked how they incorporated side characters into the story, that way it's not just a series about 4 youths, but rather about a community, their struggles, stories and what connects them.
also great amount of charming weirdos.
