I have some synths and a keyboard if you want to send some files back and forth?

zoom_zip wrote

i absolutely would, but i don’t have any recording equipment. i’ve got a guitar and some drums, but nothing to record them with at all.

Recording with a phone or shitty head set mic gives me massive post rock feels..Like how so many pat the bunny songs are recorded on cellphones from someone watching.

That's very doable, phone mics these days are pretty good (apologies to any audiophiles that are cringing right now, but it's true.)

Yeah, I don't quoteget why people are so offended by cell phone audio. Like I've recorded using a cell phone and I can't distinguish it from high quality audio. Tho in fairness I use pretty low to mid range speakers / ear buds. So that could be it.

If it's an electric guitar you can just hook a 13 dollar chord into the computer via usb. It's a guitar input to ish chord. I don't really notice much drop in quality.

Source: play guitar and sing but not really into playing in bands or sharing my music.

I've started translating desert to french. It's quite simple, I copy paste it into deepl one paragraph at a time, and edit some words sometimes.

plasticspoon OP wrote

That's cool. I'm a little surprised it hasn't been translated before

4

moonlune wrote

Yeah I wanted to share it with friends, and also so I can make "lisez désert" graffiti on walls.

Nice! Did you encountered any particular word or phrase difficult to translate? Sometimes I in lyrics I find metaphor or overly specific stuff that lost something in the translation.

I think /u/mofongo started a Spanish translation too

mofongo wrote

I started 'blessed is the flame'. It's two years in the making now, when it should not have taken more than a week.

I agree, metaphor is hard. I spent a lot of time thinking and tinkering about how best translate 'kindle' because there's no tit for tat translation and deciding whether to focus on the poetic vs literal meaning. Finally, I have not touched that file in months and, what's worse, most of the heavy lifting was already done by google translate.

If you want any help or proofreading, can count on me.

I think I got inspired to start some translations too.

And now thinking, I searched and there is not so much sources of texts in Nahuatl, Quechua, or Guaraní, at least the last two have more speakers than Catalan for example.

I think first translations usually opens space to future better translations, and since moonlune said about her translation I am thinking in translating it myselft too... This can't be a privilege of the Anglosphere

I'm having trouble with "wild". I haven't found any word for it . It doesn't look like there are any nuance between "wild" and "savage" in french.

I used "sauvageté" and added a translator note for now lol.

one of my online spaces just fell apart. it was a discord server with only a few people. i can never find a place in larger discords so finding one with 3-4 regular/active people was nice. gone now. where next?

I’m still getting used to the platform. The Twitter style of discourse isn’t my comfort zone. I do enjoy the few people I’ve interacted with.

DeletedButArchived wrote

It's so much better since there are no character limits. But yeah the whole tweeting and following thing makes for a less than ideal social platform. Twitter thrives of having idols. I mean like common you become peoples follower if you want to hear more from them. So Mastadon is set up inherently is a little off with anarchist beliefs. But beggars can't be choosers and I don't care enough to make something different.

Fixed my shop vac the other day. Forgot to unplug it after testing it though. Finger tips were numb for a couple of hours afterwards. Being electrocuted is always a scary experience.

Been quiet around here lately, some of y'all may want to step up participation

This is very tru. Also who came up with the idea of getting a bunch of anarchist reveals to do stuff by ordering them to do it. It's like trying to push an elephant out of your way rather than walk around.

Personally, I just haven't had much to say lately. It has nothing to do with the content or other users here.
