Its annoying that everyone just wants to use these outrage incidents for their own benefit. As soon as a white person kills anyone, a bunch of left posters show up claiming fascism or white nationalism, even before anyone knows what happened. Right wingers do similar if the shooter is a person of color.

I perused NYT, the Guardian, and other liberal outlets talking about hate crimes and mass shootings but using shaky statistics to make their cases. Like even a liberal should know that a drive by shooting in Chicago is not in the same category as a deranged person shooting up a grocery store.

I feel its OK to recognize that violent and genocidal political politics exist without trying to paint a narrative of direct causal effect within 24hrs of every violent event. Not all violence is political; sometimes actors are just alienated and/or sick people driven to an edge from living in a shit world. More than that its best to know facts before coopting someone else's loss for a cause.

Thanks for listening to my TED talk. Sorry if this is controversial or in the wrong place, kind of new around here.

edit: also want to preemptively apologize for making a US-centric post but this is the nation state I inhabit and its eating at me today

In the US we are very lucky because, if any given mass shooter does not turn out to have the motivation you hoped for, there will be another massacre soon that can affirm your political beliefs.

yea it's almost like they're giddy to lay each shooting at the feet of the fascists so they can win some kind of numbers game that only exists in their head

Tbh, you can write these scripts yourself and recycle them at this point. Heck, the journalists probably do. Conversations and narratives exist to support themselves at this point.
