Holy shit I'm beat.

What a fucking year. I think the best things that happened to me this year might be that ghanaian funeral meme and the cat vibing meme.

How's everybody else's years been?

Anybody here good at gifting? I'd like to learn how your brain works if you have any logics or tips you can share.

Has any new interesting stuff happened in the world of anarchy lately?

I feel like the beginning of the year was figuring out covid and resistance there, now we're in endurance mode, and there was a chunk in the middle when we had to deal with the US election. I'm ready to think something new.

Any good new books you read lately?

I don't think there's any universal logic to it. You just have to know people well.

My oldest sister gets people things that she personally likes. People almost always like her gifts. Not everyone can pull this off, though.

Don't get people stuff for their hobbies; they likely already have everything they need for them (except if said hobby requires consumables of some kind, e.g. art supplies).

A nice bottle of alcohol is good if they drink and you know what they like (and they're not an alcoholic or someone that doesn't need more encouragement).

Gift certificates/cards for experiences and restaurants and tickets for shows and concerts are always nice (Covid is fucking that up right now though).

If you're good at a craft, handmade stuff is good. People have liked my crocheted stuff. This can be time-consuming and, if you use pricey yarn, expensive.

Sometimes, you might have to go shopping and browse for ideas. It can be hard to just sit there and come up with stuff off the top of your head.

My grandpa passed away. There will be no funeral. Pandemics suck.

I'm not good at gifting, but I've received some good and bad gifts. I like non-durable items. Like food, drinks, paint, lube, candles. I dislike stuff that takes up a bunch of space (laundry hamper that I didn't need). Or stuff that is expensive and I'll never use it (got an iPhone once).

I read a tip somewhere to keep a list on your phone and whenever someone mentions something they want you add it to the list. Not good advice only a couple weeks before the holidays though.

I’ve learned phone calls also make fantastic gifts (but that could just be my family)

I've been reading a lot of mathematical philosophy. Fun stuff. Can't for the life of me figure out why universities make it harder to get journals legally than pirates do to get them illegally. Even if you want to do right, they make it awfully hard.

Read a book on the history of organic farming. I had no idea how much romanticism overlaps with fascism, bit of a shock. Romanticism is still the best art movement regardless.

That's great! This year I figured out I need to exercise more. Only had a few days in the last week with time and energy to try though. I think once the stuff I'm working on now is done in the next couple weeks I'll have a chance to get into it.

Romanticism reeks bourgeoisie aesthetics so maybe that's why there is a connection.

If you think that fascism was breed to be a reactionary movement trying to coopt the Communist and Anarchist movements of the early 20th century, and how they offers another set of values, National pride for example is one of the examples of Romantic/Bourgeois.

I don't hate computers yet but I have noticed that I don't spend nearly as much time playing video games as I used to now that I spend at least half the school day online.

Well I can't break the ToS by posting any of the content, since they're all books or articles. But here's the wiki on the subject.

The two articles I enjoyed most this morning are "Conceptual and Computational Mathematics" by Nicolas Fillion where he talks about how the dichotomy of pure vs applied or conceptual vs computational mathematics is a false one that is propelled by separate parties for their own interests but the most excellent forms of either in recent years are when both are used creatively to solve a problem that neither could solve alone.

The other one is "How Can Abstract Objects of Mathematics Be Known?" by Ladislav Kvasz. This article is an attempt by the author to counter the notion that mathematical objects are not accessible through human capacities and specifically to prove the statement "the objects studied by mathematics are not abstract but ideal".

I'm putting myself through a lot of math stuff because i really want to be good at constructing more advanced mathematical concepts. Happened to read something about mathematical philosophy while reading a book on optimization theory and then I went down a rabbit hole. I'm still in it actually.

I'm trying to learn a new language but I find all the common ones boring. The problem is that all the uncommon ones don't have too many resources for learning them. I'm trying to learn Gothic, but that has a somewhat strange alphabet. I kinda want to make a conlang based on it though, that might be fun.

I think the imperative the dirtbag left feel to criticize liberal identity politics and american hegemony is so great that they are liable to veer off into bad take territory with their discourse.

Been ignoring my responsibilities best I can and working on my hobbies and biding my time till I can get out of where I am in life currently. And maybe sometime soon (doubt it though) I can go back to where I was and what I was doing and hopefully no-one will pull me back out of that complete wilderness and I can be at peace in nature and try and just forget about civilization and everything wrong with it.
