Building this community has been a ton of fun and it is based on my own website, but with some modifications of course. There are quite a few custom icons made and I brought in a set of custom templates for the articles section that I built for my own site. Working with the team every step of the way to build the best community I know how. The work began as it almost always do with some sketches and base coloring. From there I did the base coloring, which is easy in this software, and started to move over the code that would be the base for TheLeft. From there it was adjustment time to make sure the colors and the code fit the new community experience. The basic structure of the clubs was created and a starting point for the articles was set up. We defined the ideologies and I made icons for them while we defined the main sections of the site. I created the blocks for the hero banners and the other blocks we needed and set up the start page. We added the different system modules and I did a sweep to make sure they looked ok. Then we added the tabbed forum layout and set up the forums as we wanted them. I created custom post icons for all forums and decided to add maps to the regional news section. Finally, we connected the articles section to the news section in the forums so you can comment on both sides. We added some content and wrote the copy for the hero banners as well as the about us section. I created some custom reaction icons and updated some code that had gone haywire, and then we were ready to go live. Throughout the process I provided input and advice from my long experience building communities too @Admin and the others. With 20+ years experience I have an inkling on how to get a good start and I hope I can continue to provide guidance moving forward. It's a great project and I have had a great time building this first incarnation of TheLast.

An American flag means peace to you? What bizarro world do you inhabit?

I lol'd after clicking the link, being bombarded by a garish USA motif. Nothing says leftist like an evil empire.

Checks:

Map of modern slavery

Map of women's physical safety

Map of children's rights

Map of child prostitution

Map of workers rights

Map of marijuana legalization

I'll gladly take all your down votes now. :¬)

Or, you can just tell me what I'm missing...

Ya know, Lettuce, sometimes a comment doesn't need paragraphs worth of a takedown. The maps Stained is referencing don't actually mean anything in regards to Zig's point that the US flag doesn't represent peace.

That's a lesson we can all take from. The impulse to troll/counter-troll is strong but doing so in a political space has unintended consequences. It really is easier to just ignore those type of comments and move on.

I mean the US government are one of the bigger causes of slavery, reduction in women's safety, children's rights, workers rights and marijuana legalization in other countries. These things benefit the establishment and to a lesser extent US citizens.

The US government causes slavery in all of Africa and the Middle East? Doubt. But, I can see how Western countries harmed and continue to harm those countries.

You claim isnt impressive to anyone who has basic knowledge of the current world interaction politically.

Ok that's just unnecessary.

Also all of those things you think are positives are caused by progressives in and around that area trying to solve the problems while being inhibited by the US state. The US government is a force that constantly is trying to take those things you ding good away. The flag represents the one of the forces that is against the list you provided of good things.

Progressives are a part of this country. Progressivism itself a product of Western Enlightenment and your really gonna love this, Christianity, which forbade men from marrying multiple wives and treating them as chattel, ensured basic education for all and started the first universities. (Oxford University is older than the Aztec pyramids where they were pulling out the beating hearts of men, women, children, slaves. See more at: Christianity contributions to civilization Wikipedia)

It's also fucked up to see the large amount of work that is done by hardworking and semi decent actavists and attribute those gains to the same politicians who tried to stop the positive changes from happening. I think you need to take some time to do some intersection considering how easy it is for you to attribute things caused in part by feminist movements which dramatically helped lessen violence and mistreatment of women and children to a group a prodemonatetly rich racist sex creeps who would be all to happy to decrease all those values you find desirable.

What's really fucked up is taking those patriotic Americans and their hard work and attributing it to... some vague concept that hasn't taken root outside the West.

Also how could you possibly say with a straight face that Donald Trump and Joe Biden are figures who are running/ will run an institution which cares about feminism and not rapping kids. The two men who seem very dedicated to such a task.

And here's where you really go off the deep end. Where did I say this? Much less, "with a straight face." Honey buns, my face is never straight. Esp online.

Thanks for your mostly well thought out answer though. I mean that part.

Do you see feminism taking root in Africa? In the Middle East? In Asia (maybe)? Or, is feminism, again, a product of the West? Of chivalry? It would be easy for me to throw your words back in your face and tell you to "do some thinking" about me and friends being thrown off of rooftops or beaten in the streets by immigrants from countries where these things happen routinely. But, I'm sure a smartie like you has considered both sides and already tested your own theories, um... right? <3

Ahahahaha! Christianity prevent treating women as chattel, for sure. And, oh wait, monogamous marriage and its liberating qualities! No less invented by westerners and Jesoos himself.

Oxford University is older than the Aztec pyramids where they were pulling out the beating hearts of men, women, children, slaves.

Ahahahahaha! Of course, Oxford is one of the oldest education institution that was named university. All the education institutions established by filthy non-western barbarians before, are for some reason don't count, because they are inferior and westerners refuse to name them "university".

And, no-no, men, women, children, slaves never were killed in europe, never your enlightened ancestors fell for such savagery! Not after Oxford.

Or, is feminism, again, a product of the West? Of chivalry?

You can't be serious.

We don't consider liberals to be leftists here so you might not be seen positively for considering them as such. Also environmentalism isn't necessarily a leftist position either.

Lol they tried to pay r/anarchism to run ads for them:

Hello,

We're writing to you today to see whether you would be interested in accepting payment in exchange to advertise our brand new forum on your subreddit and to your community. The forum in question is TheLeft.com. As you may have guessed from the domain, we're a left leaning political website/forum. Our goal is to create a community for people interested in politics and world events who wish to discuss anything related to politics on our forum. We also have sub forums for non political discussion as well.

As of now, we have finished designing and developing the website and forum - all that's left is the users. We believe being advertised or having a paid sponsorship with your subreddit will increase our user activity.

If this is possible, we'll love to continue this conversation with you regarding prices and how this advertisement or sponsorship will be done. If you have any questions regarding our website we'll be glad to answer them.

Our business email is business@theleft.com

Thank you.

Wow, this is a cool project. While I disagree with liberals I think its a great opportunity to try to work with them to do mutual aid. I'd be glad to help out with the site. I just hope TheLeft didn't leave after the initial (semi justified) negative response.
