As if funerals weren't bad enough already in this society, the covid restrictions has made them quite a bit more bleak. Masks (& distancing) really fuck up intimacy & communication.

Been enjoying cooking a lot lately, trying a lot of new stuff. Highly recommend the "Recipe Filter" addon for Firefox/Chrome, it gives you the recipe without the novel.

To be clear, I care because I'm stressed about transitions of power and possible violence over it. I don't know if I have enough toilet paper for this. haha...wait, now I'm sad.

I get to take the SAT tomorrow. I hate it but I guess it's good if I want to get into college

I couldn't afford a 4-year and had to do Community College first. So I never even bothered to take the SAT. In my 20s, everyone wanted to talk about their SAT scores as if to compare intelligence levels. I enjoyed answering that I never took the test and seeing the shock/surprise on peoples' faces. I even had people ask me to guess what my score would be. I knew those people weren't worth talking to, lol.

Yeah, that's probably a good move. I would avoid taking it except that some of the colleges I want to go to are still requiring it, even after every exam for the past 8 months was cancelled. It's really not great to say that the SAT is a measure of intelligence though. You can't figure out how smart someone is by asking them to answer ~150 questions in 3 hours. Even if standardized tests were a good way to measure intelligence, a sample size of one is really small.

Anyone else hoping, selfishly, that something terrible happens related to the U.S. election?

I'm so sick of the status quo draining away my life, and the life of those I love, that I've been secretly hoping for a "It Could Happen Here" scenario.

Is it a fucked up hope? Probably, but I just can't stand the idea of everyone collectively moving on as if the world isn't on the precipice of total disaster.

Basil wrote

Yeah I kinda get that. I've moved onto hoping that people see that shit doesn't change when Biden is elected, but I kinda doubt that will happen. The status quo is always going to prevail in this day and age

Half the population of the U.S. isn't going to see the lack of real change. Instead, they'll see everything as an exaggerated step towards "those darn Commies."

And so the post election violence begins. If your in the US you may want to take down any political signs you may have, or tell friends and family to do so.

Two blown up mailboxes, attempted arson and a house shot up. All with biden signs in their yard. and that's just the greater metro area near me.

I am completely against social media. I loathe the networked life. I posted "Fuck Twitch" a few weeks back and ... I am currently trying to figure out how to set up a stream. This pandemic is forcing me to adapt. Though, not sure if I am changing for the best, or if I am feeding the beast that will eventually consume me.

If you can't beat 'em, join 'em! Right?

I was thinking about doing some streaming but my PC isn't good enough. I just thought it could be kinda fun.

I'm using a busted laptop. Not ideal, but it works. I doubt you'd need high specs, unless you were trying to run a resource hogging game. Twitch recommends at least an i5 and 8 gigs of ram. Basically, if you can run a zoom call, you can run Twitch. Of course, this is assuming you have all the extra stuff, like a camera, a mic, a splitter if you're trying to capture a console game. My laptop comes with the first two built in. I'd say go for it. Half the fun is pulling your hair out trying to troubleshoot the damn thing.

lastfutures wrote

Maybe what I need is more ram. I just have integrated graphics too tho. All I know is I tried to stream DCSS, an extremely low-resource game, and it was laggy as fuck. Could be something about that game specifically, I don't know.

Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup?! Why didn't I know this game existed? I love roguelikes! (Unless you were referring to a different game). I had issues when first streaming due to the make and model of my laptop. Took some extra steps on OBS. Might depend on the streaming software you're using too.

Yeah Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup. It's the best roguelike I've played, it's so fun. Lots of different types of race/class combos to try, and it's very difficult but not totally random bullshit like nethack. reddit.com/r/dcss is pretty active if you want advice for it (you can also spectate people on the online sever).

Maybe I'll try to get the stream going again at some point.
