also, there was a trend of increasing requirements on job applications in 2008, and it seems like that's happening again.....
In other words, when there are more job seekers out there, employers raise requirements because, as one CEO noted, “[t]he recession is a wonderful opportunity to acquire top talent.” src
so media can be like 'theres no qualified workers!' uhhhhhh
Also, lots of news about mass layoffs.
The South Park pandemic special was spot on about the "chin diapers". No one seems to be wearing their masks right any more, they just have them over their chins or their mouth at most.
horny + hungry
Just got back in civilization for the first time in more than 9 months, world got weirder while I was gone.

Thanks for the interest! Bit of a long story, but the short version is around Decemberish I decided I was just done with civilization and humans and and went out to a property I know of that's been abandoned for a few decades in the absolute middle of nowhere and essentially squatted there in the old log cabin that is there, fixed it up, and started a little substance farm, foraged and fished for food. Probably not a single person within over 200 kilometers of me, and no cellular service, also no electricity. Had told a close friend where I was before I left and told everyone else to talk to him if they need to contact me, and only if it's extremely important. Many months of relatively comfortable solitude pass and then my friend shows up telling me that there's been an emergency in the family, so I packed my things and had to travel over 2000KM to the city so I could help out.
So here I am, back in civilization and unfortunately back to the modern grind for at the very least the next year or so. Won't lie and say I didn't miss some modern amenities though.
Edit: and of course while there I had no news so I didn't even know about the pandemic until I was contacted so that was uhh unusual.
That’s pretty amazing. Welcome back to modernity, for the time being.
I hope your family be ok and you can return to the wilderness soon
Everything is mostly sorted, my family is fine now but there was a bit of a scare. Thank you for caring.
I certainly look forward to getting back out though.
Additionally I look forward now to returning to where I was, completely disconnected from the modern world and independent of companies.
Don't look now everyone but an inventor has solved homelessness. Apparently all it took was replacing cardboard boxes with polyethylene boxes so people won't freeze to death as fast while sleeping behind a dumpster.
Homelessness is the stick that the bourgeois use to keep us working. it'll never dissapear :(
Instead of just giving them shelter, I feel like society’s gonna make the homeless the next generation of hunter gatherers. These are their teepees. Having to constantly move from place to place to get support is their curse.
Homeless shelter is a racket for churches and NGO to exploit. As somebody who spent a few years on the street, I'd rather sleep behind the dumpster than in the shelters, and I know many homeless people who share similar sentiment. Shelters are always over-capacity for the past 10 years, extremely cruel and abusive toward marginalized, queer and trans homeless youths. Not to mention people who willing to shank you for a bed. And the churches just keep racking money from the state where those money never go back to funding the shelters. That's the only reason the shelter system exist.
It's been about 3 weeks and I'm already tired of school, especially online when half the time sound cuts out when I try to open a new tab.

Mask compliance is pretty high near me. Haven't seen anyone without a mask in a while. Too many people not covering their nose or wearing those useless gaiters though.
There's a mini war going on around me regarding political lawn signs. Biden and trump signs alike have been getting destroyed and vandalized with increasing frequency. Also trumpsters have been sending threatening letters to people with biden signs. And someone blew up a biden supporters mailbox yesterday night.
This year has been such a shitshow.
My life hasn't changed for the last five years, at least. For the most part, it's been one continuous, overworked struggle to join the workforce with no consent on my part. Something needs to change. I think that starts with anarchism.
End my IWW membership this month.
Joined them a few years ago when I thought the world could still be saved from capitalism and climate change.
Taking that $33 a month and spending it on prepping equipment (rice, beans, water filtration, etc) instead.
I didn't really get much experience with them lol. For the first several years, there wasn't a chapter within 200 miles of me, but about a year ago one popped up in my city. Their meetings always took place in the middle of my shift and I could never get time off to go. When I was finally in a different position and could go, COVID-19 happened.
I believe that they genuinely care about workers, but they don't have the infrastructure to offer anything other than empty promises. The IWW is too small and has zero networks outside of the organization. They'll never be able to organize a general strike and I don't think they'll ever manage anything on a scale larger than a city block or two.
Just to make a point about how small they are: I live in one of the most populous metropolitan areas within the United States and they didn't have a chapter here until 2019. Based on where they held their meetings, I would wager that less than 2 dozen members would regularly attended meetings before COVID-19.
hello fellow fledglings
every interaction with the other humans feels so surreal. like everyone is in on it. so many little stories. i am not expecting a check in the mail for the past two weeks of working . i would like to keep on this little gardening project, see it through and its going fine, with flowers. about to sow some more, and i have to hope but now, mad fisher dude who likes to play, on the street said if he ever see me again- and the others who, what are they on?
no more bullshit. no more bullshitting bullshitters. they can just keep that shit to themself and leave me be. i am too busy for it.
and i never go on reddit but what the ?
Media writing lots about people being unemployed and businesses getting thousands of applicants as if theres nothing to do with it.
Idk, maybe imposing a 4 hour work day would force employeers to employ more people?
