People often think of Vikings as just raiders, but they were traders also. They reached the Islamic world. It isn't unlikely they also went back with new recruits/slaves/etc., possibly Muslims.

Flip it around and you can see the same in Islamic countries. One of the most famous figures in Islam was Baibars. He was a Kipchak, certainly not a "middle-easterner", who became a warrior and leader of Muslim armies.

It's very interesting history for sure, but probably not uncommon. Thanks for the post tequila_wolf, I love this kind of stuff.
