Some good stuff to remember. Also this youtubers style is odd which is nice because many of these sorts of videos are boring. So kudos to them.

also another one that actually does a good job at the video game covers

He sort of address that. I don't know how much you play but a big part is picking stuff that is easy enough for you to realistically learn and then not setting aside huge practice times (just regular ones) so it isn't a slog or feels daunting.

Oh for sure. I don't play because I'm very bad at it and I don't like doing things that I'm bad at, which means I won't ever get good. Which sucks because I'd like to be good at it.

I think because I started out playing bass finger picking (only played a couple of years) playing with a pick is like .... weird. And it sounds TERRIBLE. And I know that all I have to do to get better with picking is practice but uuuuuuuuuuugggggghhhhhh. Why can't I just be good at it from the start???

Play classical, you don't use a pick!

I mean I don't play bass so I am sure its vastly different. I am mostly joking.

that sounds even harder.

really I just want to learn some chords so I can poorly play songs for people to sing with at parties and in parks and shit. but it's silly because I play left handed so it's not like I'd be able to just pick up any guitar. But also my left hand is useless so I can't imagine being able to like do classical style finger picking with it. I can barely strum the chords lol bass is easy, i only ever needed two fingers of my left hand MAYBE three if I was being fancy.

Oh it is though I think its easier for arpeggios than a pick.

Actually useful advice you can strum without a pick. Justin guitar has a good video on it here

Jazz, country, and folk guitarists play chords without picks all the time (though jazz chords are a whole different beast). It makes it a lot easier to get a distinct "bass line" when you play guitar because you can play the lowest string with your thumb and then strum with your pointer or pluck with the other three or four fingers. You can also just strum with your thumb which is also common enough.

edit: and bonus advice you also can just find your own way to play. If your goal is to just to play without concern of being great just play around until you find something that works. It can be totally wrong and weird but if it works for what you want who cares yeah?
