I am still appalled at all the backlash against codes of conduct. "We've decided to enforce rules against asshole behavior in the community." "How dare you? You've ruined something vital to open source!!!!" Really? Really really?

I know I'm not saying anything new here, but I'll say it anyway. The idea that it's useful or desirable to be rude to people when you think they wrote bad code or made a bad design choice is so absurd it hurts to think about. The sole interesting point I've heard in its defense is that some open source contributors are autistic or have related problems, and thus cannot tell when they are being rude. I still don't accept that defense, though. If you're autistic and you get called out for behavior, announce your autism and ask for help apologizing and help understanding acceptable conduct. Don't demand the right to continue driving other contributors away and calling it their problem and not yours.
