The *buntus do that. I'm not sure if kernel blobs are included in that. They have four categories for software, and by default the installer will install the Canonical-supported free software and optionally the Canonical-supported non-free software.

Canonical desktop yes, but A.F.As Canonical Server they basically ship gnome.
gnome is the the benefactor of redhat.
thereby canonical supports proprietary redhat RHEL.
I would rather go with something like trisquel in future.

GNOME is not RedHat's benefactor.
sorry I was driving at the other way round. R(edhat gives money to gnome.)
