As a practical matter, addressing anyone with one foot in the proprietary software universe and one foot in the free software universe is going to get them to jump back to proprietary.

If we as a free software community can't treat the people on the other side or in the middle with respect, they'll never join us. So even with all of your accurate statements, your post did more harm to free software than good.

And to be clear, free software users retain the right to complain about missing features. I love Linux, that's what I run, but I'm still allowed to be angry that my laptop battery life on Linux is half what it was on Windows because of differences in driver support. I'm not blaming any Linux developers, I'm not leaving Linux, I'm just unhappy with the situation.

We have conflicting goals, then. My goal is for free software to displace proprietary software worldwide. Your goal is to use free software, and to hell with the rest of the world.

"To get" is ambiguous, it could mean I plan to use deception or coercion. I intend neither. And your goal can't be reached without people like me supporting mine - if all devices available require proprietary software, you can only exercise your freedom by avoiding all software everywhere.

Do you mean "it did not work automagically as soon as I finished the installation?" If that's what you mean then boo hoo. You might actually have to participate in getting your computer to work how you want.

get your own fucking computer to work as a participating member of the community instead of whining like a customer

As i said in the post, i spent two whole days on this. I don't assume things to magically work by any means, and I don't mind spending time on fixing issues. In this case, however, I just couldn't get anything to work properly. I've never had to deal with anything as annoying as this before. Please fuck off with the holier-than-thou attitude.

After an absurd amount of hours spent troubleshooting, i finally got almost everything to work in Ubuntu MATE.
